Mariana Mazzucato is a scientific researcher of international renown, author of three books that have brought her recognition in the international scientific community. She is a respected economic expert for international organizations and institutions, i.e. the European Commission, WHO, UN and OECD, as well as governments and parliaments of developed (e.g. Germany, Finland) and developing economies (Brazil), and a keynote speaker at the World Economic Forum in Davos in 2019 and 2020.
The keynote lecture dealt with the notion of value, a category commonly used by academics in the economic sciences - both in economics and finance, as well as in management sciences. It also referred to the processes of globalization, financialization and digitalization of the economy, global climate change, dwindling resources, growing social inequalities and aging societies. It also drew on the work of one of the most influential contemporary heterodox economists addressing the issue of sustainable and inclusive economic development based on innovation.
Guests of the Inauguration ceremony were invited to a short artistic part performed by the Choir of the University of Economics in Katowice, conducted by Michał Brożek, which celebrates its jubilee this academic year - its 15th anniversary.
