UE Kato Open Air 2019

On 20th May on the campus of our University, the first event of its kind took place in the open air and integrated the academic community - UE Kato Open Air 2019!


UE Kato Open Air is a new project organized by the Student Parliament of the University of Economics in Katowice, aimed at integrating students and academic staff.

The event was officially opened by the Vice-Rector for Education and Internationalization, prof. dr hab. Sławomir Smyczek, who welcomed the guests, emphasized the importance of integrating the entire academic community, and then wished everyone a lot of fun.

Then, awards were presented in the "Golden Pen" poll for the best academic teachers. The initiative is an opportunity to reward the lecturers who stand out from others. Students could vote in 5 categories. The following persons were awarded in this year's poll:

  • Student’s Best Friend - dr Justyna Majewska,
  • Walking Encyclopaedia - prof. dr hab. Eugeniusz Gatnar,
  • Reliable Practitioner - dr hab. Grzegorz Głód, prof. UE,
  • The Funniest Lecturer - dr hab. Aleksander Witosz, prof. UE,
  • Best Dean's Office - Dean's Office of the Faculty of Finance and Insurance.

The Faculty Cup was the next point on the list of attractions, i.e. a competition between the teams from particular faculties: of Economy, Finance and Insurance, IT and Communication, and Management. The first part involved the academic staff competition whereas the second part involved students competition. In the rivalry of the academic staff, the victory was won by the Faculty of Economics. The Faculty of Finance and Insurance was the best in the student competition category.

After the official end of the Faculty Cup competition and the award ceremony, there was a break during which the academic community could integrate while enjoying the music, the food from food trucks and other attractions.

The Open-Air Cinema was the last point of the event, with screening of two films from different genres - Nice Guys and Inception.

The first  university community integration of this type was completed at 1:30 am.
