University Day 2020 [coverage]

On Friday, January 10, the 83rd anniversary of the lecture, which inaugurated the University’s activities, the academic community of the University of Economics in Katowice celebrated its day. The celebration took place in Auditorium named after the founder and first Rector of the university – Józef Lisak, Ph.D.


The celebration began with the singing of "Gaudeamus Igitur" and national anthem. A solemn session of the Senate was opened by the Rector Robert Tomanek. After the inauguration speech, Voivode of Silesia, Jarosław Wieczorek assisted by the Rector, handed national honors, awarded by the President of the Republic of Poland

Then, Vice-Rector for Science and Academic Affairs Prof. Barbara Kos, Ph.D took the floor. She led the next part of the celebration, starting with the the official awarding of postdoctoral and doctoral diplomas and then official awarding of honorary titles of professor of the University of Economics in Katowice to employees who contributed immensely to the development of the University and retired. 

The University Day ended with the renewal of the doctoral diploma of prof. Andrzej Klasik. The renewal of the doctoral diploma is a unique way of honouring outstanding university graduates.

After the official ceremony graced by the singing of the Choir of the University of Economics in Katowice, the guests could taste a delicious cake.
