Our Anniversary Exhibition officially opened

Our Rector Prof. Robert Tomanek, Ph.D. and Mayor of Katowice City Marcin Krupa officially opened our Anniversary Exhibition. We encourage to see the photos at the Flower Square at the Market Square in Katowice. The exposition is available from 14th of June till 14th of July 2017.

The photographic exhibition illustrates the rich and dynamic history of the University of Economics in Katowice, inextricably linked with the Katowice City. The audience can catch a glimpse of how diverse the university is and how it has grown into the landscape of the city. The exhibition shows the events and people that created and shaped the university into what it is today. In other words, we can travel through the 80 years of tradition intertwined with modernity and innovation, inherent parts of today’s Katowice. The photos show university teachers, graduates and students, their life on the campus and their passions supported by the University of Economics in Katowice and thriving in the Katowice City.

The University of Economics in Katowice was established in December 1936 as the private College of Social and Economic Sciences in Katowice. Teaching started at the Faculty of Industrial Organization on 11 January 1937 and this date marks the beginning of the college’s operations. In 1938, the Faculty of Public Administration was launched. The founder and first rector of the College was dr Józef Lisak. The first seat of the College was based on the premises shared by the Silesian Technical School.

Today, the University of Economics in Katowice is one of the five public economics universities in Poland and the largest and oldest school of business in the region. Since the beginning, it has focused on education in economics related subjects and cooperation with business and public administration. It runs academically and practically oriented degree courses. Currently, more than 10,000 students pursue their education at the four faculties based in Katowice: Economics, Management, Finance and Insurance, Informatics and Communication, and at the Faculty of Business, Finance and Administration in Rybnik. Students can take advantage of a variety of exchange programs and scholarships for studies and work placements abroad. The university consistently implements the internationalization strategy.

For the last 80 years, over 80,000 graduates, sought after by employers, have graduated from the university. It constantly works on expanding its educational offer both in the area of study programs and in terms of target students – successfully running educational programs for children, secondary school students and senior citizens.

The University of Economics in Katowice follows its mission: your place, your space, your future.
