Orientation Week for international students

15th of February was the first day of Orientation Week for incoming international students. Students will spend summer semester studying at University of Economics in Katowice within exchange programmes, like Erasmus+.

Orientation Week had around 90 participants from 20 different countries. There was students from countries relatively close to Poland like Lithuania, Czech Republic or Slovakia and others like South Korea or Columbia. Incoming students join another 32 students who decided to stay in Katowice for full academic year.

During Orientation Week exchange students took part in many events and activities. Event is co-organized by Erasmus Student Network UE Katowice, International Relations Office and Marketing Communications Office.

On Wednesday students started a day with visiting the Silesian Museum, it was great opportunity to get some knowledge about the region, its history and tradition. For the evening, students tok part in Tandem, way to learn and integrate by participation in games and activities. The next day was the official inauguration for the students. Incoming exchange students was welcomed by the University authorities, introduced to the systems and got basic knowledge about the University. After the inauguration, students started Polish Crash Course, which gave basics of Polish, helpful for survival within the first days in Poland.

In Game at the University students discovered many secrets of the University and they tried to figure out why the elevator in the building D is so cool or how to find the canteen or library in CNTI. For the night, students kept integrating together by playing biliard or bowling.

For incoming students, Friday evening was be the best part of the Orientation Week. Global Village which took place in the late afternoon, is the event when exchange students can bring the best food, snacks, sweets, drinks, dances and songs from their countries. Opportunity to try cuisines from all over the world is a wonderful opportunity to gain knowledge about other cultures.

During the weekend students was chilling by competing in the City Game and on Sunday students went for one day trip to Pszczyna, which is also called Pearl of the Upper Silesia. Visiting the Pszczyna Castle with neighbouring park showed the students green face of the region.
