The project "UniEKO - planting and labelling the path of Polish trees, an educational and ecological initiative" is an educational path addressed both to Katowice residents and students of the University of Economics in Katowice. It aims to promote knowledge about the native speciesof coniferous tree families and the pedunculate oak, the symbol of the Polish broadleaved trees. The path is composed of five species of Polish coniferous trees and one broadleaved species. The Faculties of the University have each adopted one coniferous tree to patronize. Finally, the pedunculate oak, a species unvaryingly perceived by Poles as noble and long-lived, has been chosen to represent Polish broadleaved trees in the UniEKO project. The planted oaks bear the names of the honorary doctorate holders who were conferred this distinguished title by the University in Katowice.
