Cracow (Kraków)
Cultural and intellectual center of Poland. It was the seat of Polish kings and the country's capital from 11th to 17th century. The most popular monument is the Wawel Hill with the Royal Castle and Cathedral, with its magnificent gold-plated Zygmunt Chaptel. City life focuses around the old town's Market Square, the second largest square in Europe with its landmark: Cloth Hall (Sukiennice). Cracow is also a well known for its thriving night life. Auschwitz (Oświęcim)
Place worth visiting, not far from Katowice - the biggest German Nazi concentration camp. During the Second World War, it was a huge 'factory' of human annihilation where aprox. 1,5 milion people were extermineted. The Martyrdom Museum is a UNESCO World Heritage site. www.en.auschwitz.org.pl
