expected date of the seminar: May 24, 2023 (a hybrid event: online and onsite)

organized by

the Jean Monnet Chair of the European Union at SGH Warsaw School of Economics

as a part of the EUSEC Project „European financial security in a global, regional and national dimension”

The role of international organizations in responding to new global and regional challenges related
to economic, financial and social changes has become noticeably more prominent over the past decade. The changes in the world which took place have increased pressure to build a new global architecture for the 21st century based on deepening the interdependence of main actors of international relations, that is, international organizations (IOs), states and NGOs, in facing current economic, political, financial and social challenges in the world. Nowadays, questions about how to maintain peace and democracy, fight the pandemic or avoid the global economic and financial crisis are becoming increasingly relevant to a globalized world. Many EU Member States and other actors  in  international relations perceive the activities of IOs as inadequate. They wonder if their ability to cope with increasingly complex and numerous challenges such as financial instability, the environment and climate change, health and the fight against significant pandemics, multilateral trade, etc., which are no longer only national but also global goals.

The aim of the international conference is an interdisciplinary debate on the scale of activities carried out by international organizations and their role in solving selected problems related to the current challenges, particularly regarding the prevention and resolution of financial and economic crises, ensuring financial and economic security

The main research questions of the conference are:

-        whether international organizations, including international financial organizations, act effectively and efficiently in the face of problems related to financial and economic crises,

-        how the cooperation between the EU and other international organizations in the field of financial and economic security is progressing,

-        whether the EU sufficiently takes action to ensure the financial and economic security of EU Member States,

-        how actions and decisions taken by international organizations in the field of creating solutions for financial and economic security affect EU Member States.

We are looking forward to your submission. Please send your presentation's title and an abstract (max. 200 words) by April 30, 2023 to: aklos1@sgh.waw.pl.
