EU citizen - Education obtained in EU / OECD / EFTA / Ukraine / China
Below is a step-by-step guide to help you navigate the application process and ensure a smooth enrollment at UE Katowice.
1) Learn about admission rules
Before starting your application, please familiarize yourself with the admission rules.
If you want to study for a Master’s in Poland, your previous education must entitle you to continue your studies in the country where you graduated.
We thoroughly verify this matter during the application process. However, you can try to check it on your own here: kwalifikator.nawa.gov.pl
If you are generally eligible to pursue a Master’s degree, a related academic background is not required for admission.
As a rule, candidates applying for an MA programme at our University are invited to attend an online interview, unless they qualify for an exemption (see the list of exemptions below).
Among the fields evaluated in the interview are:
- the candidate's diploma
- command of English (the minimum level is B2)
- knowledge
- motivation
- professional experience.
All of the above will be taken into account in determining the final result, which is decisive for admission to the programme.
Exemptions from the qualification interview:
- Finance and Accounting for Business: Graduates of the University of Economics in Katowice, regardless of their field of study, as well as graduates of other economic universities or first- and second-cycle studies in economics and related fields at universities within the European Union, are exempt from the qualification interview, provided they can document their English language proficiency at a minimum B2 level according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
- Quantitative Asset and Risk Management (ARIMA): Graduates of higher education institutions from the European Union who have completed first- or second-cycle studies and have obtained at least 15 ECTS credits in courses related to quantitative methods, economics and finance during their studies are exempt from the qualification interview, provided they can document their English language proficiency at a minimum B2 level according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
- E-commerce: Graduates of higher education institutions from the European Union who have completed first- or second-cycle studies in economics or related fields are exempt from the qualification interview, provided they can document their English language proficiency at a minimum B2 level according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
2) Apply online
The admission process is conducted via the IRK application system.
Create an account in the IRK system, log in, complete all required personal data, provide information about your education, choose your study program(s), and follow the subsequent steps.
You may find it useful to consult our IRK System Manual, which presents, step by step, how to complete your application and navigate the IRK system. Click here to read the manual.
Your IRK account includes a “Help” tab, which should be used for all correspondence regarding your application. Messages sent through this tab are automatically linked to your account, allowing us to respond more quickly and efficiently.
3) Prepare and scan the required documents
Please prepare scans of the following documents:
- Higher education diploma (at least a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent)
- the original diploma must be apostilled* in the country of issue,
- a scanned copy must be uploaded to the IRK application system,
- the original document must be presented upon arrival at the University.
* Apostille is not required at the stage of application. The deadline for its submission is upon enrollment in Poland (by the end of September).
UKRAINE
Candidates applying for admission on the basis of documents issued in Ukraine may be exempt from the requirement to provide an apostille, provided they submit a printout from the Unified State Electronic Database on Education (EDBO) of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine confirming the verification of the document entitling them to undertake studies.
MERCURI and Magellan Master’s Programmes
Candidates applying for admission with a diploma issued by one of the partner universities may be exempt from the requirement to have the diploma apostilled.
! Important note: to participate in the qualification interview, it is sufficient to upload a scan of your transcript of records covering all completed semesters to date.
- Diploma supplement or transcript of records
- the original document must be apostilled in the country where it was issued,
- a scanned copy must be uploaded to the IRK system,
- the original must be presented upon arrival at the University,
- for information on apostille, please refer to the diploma section above.
- Sworn translation of the diploma and its supplement / transcript of records into English or Polish;
- Entitlement document - a certificate confirming that your diploma entitles you to undertake second-cycle studies in the country of issue. If your diploma does not contain information about your entitlement to further education at the second-cycle level, you need to obtain an additional document confirming that it entitles you to study in the country where it was issued. This document should be:
- - downloaded from the KWALIFIKATOR system if your diploma is included there, or:
- - issued by the university you graduated from if your diploma has not been included in the Kwalifikator system.
- Certificate confirming your proficient command of English (minimum required level: B2);
- Document confirming the right to study under the same tuition fee conditions as Polish citizens (valid passport of a citizen of an EU country);
- Recent passport photograph – prepared in accordance with the specified requirements.
4) Upload all required documents to the IRK application system
Upload scans of the required documents to the dedicated sections of your “Enrollment applications” within the specified deadlines.
Please note that once the round has ended, it will no longer be possible to upload any files in the system. Applications that are not completed before the end of the round will not be considered.
5) Pay the application fee
Pay the application fee in the amount of PLN 85 or EUR 20 (the bank account number is available in the IRK application system).
Upload the payment confirmation to your account in the same section where you uploaded your documents. This helps us identify the payment in our bank statements. In the absence of the necessary information in the transfer title, which prevents us from assigning the payment to the candidate, if the payment is not processed before the end of the round, the application will not be considered.
Once the payment is credited to the University's bank account, your application will be further processed and verified. Applications without payment will not be considered or verified.
6) Wait until your documents are verified
Your application will be verified in the IRK system during the admissions round. If your application requires supplementation, you will be informed in the system about any missing documents. Please note that if the required documents are not submitted within the specified deadline, your application will be left without consideration.
The qualification status will be updated only after the end of the admissions round (please refer to the admission schedule).
7) Take the qualification interview (if required)
After your application has been successfully verified, you will receive detailed information regarding an online qualification interview. The interview is conducted remotely and is an obligatory part of the admission process unless you qualify for an exemption (see the section: "Learn more about admission rules"). You'll receive an invitation to the interview via the IRK system.
8) Wait for the qualification decision
On the day the results are announced, the qualification decision will be visible in the IRK system (please refer to the admission schedule).
9) Pay the tuition fee
After you are qualified for your chosen program, you will receive a payment notification for the first-year tuition fee. Once we confirm the transfer, we will issue your acceptance letter.
10) Visit the Admissions Office at UE Katowice and complete the enrollment procedure
The admission procedure is completed once the original documents previously uploaded as scans in the recruitment system are submitted to the Admissions Office.
You are requested to submit your original documents to the Admissions Office within the deadline applicable to candidates residing in Poland (in accordance with the notification in the IRK system) or within a deadline agreed individually with the Admissions Office. Timely submission is vital to complete your enrollment, obtain access to USOS (the Student System), receive your class schedule and student ID card, and - in the case of some programs - register for selected courses (e.g., a foreign language).
If you are unable to arrive in Poland within this deadline, you must come to Poland and complete your enrollment in person before the start of the semester (no later than the end of September). Please note, however, that late arrival may delay your access to USOS (the Student System), your class schedule and student ID card, as well as - in the case of some programs - register for selected courses (e.g., a foreign language).
Visit the Admissions Office and bring all your original documents so that copies can be made and included in your student file. The Admissions Office is located in the CNTI building, room 2/17, Bogucicka 5 Street, Katowice.
If you fail to enroll in person within the registration period, you will not be officially registered as a student, and your admission may be cancelled. If you anticipate that, due to objective reasons, you may not be able to arrive by the end of September, please inform us as soon as possible. In justified cases, a short extension may be considered, subject to the Rector’s approval. Each request is assessed individually.
Please note that to enroll in a study program in Poland, you must have valid health insurance. This can be a valid European Health Insurance Card (EHIC). We strongly recommend also purchasing additional accident insurance (NNW), as the EHIC covers only basic medical care in case of illness and does not provide coverage for accidents, personal liability, or other emergency situations. Having NNW ensures broader protection and peace of mind during your stay in Poland.
NOTE: We warmly invite you to take part in Integration Week for incoming international students. Integration Week will take place in the last week of September 2026. It is an important part of preparing for the start of your studies and adapting to the academic environment. Participation in this event is not mandatory but highly recommended.
