About the IAC 2026
Since 2022, Katowice has become a recognised forum for international debate on Energy Justice and Energy Transition, bringing together leading academics, policymakers, regulators and industry practitioners from around the world. Over the past four years, our annual conference has provided a unique platform for interdisciplinary discussion on the legal, economic, social and technological dimensions of the energy transition.
As the energy sector undergoes unprecedented transformation, the concept of energy justice has emerged as a fundamental principle guiding policy, regulation and investment decisions. Ensuring that the benefits and burdens of the transition are distributed fairly is essential to achieving a sustainable, secure and inclusive energy future. At the same time, the transition towards cleaner and more innovative energy systems presents significant opportunities for economic growth, scientific advancement and social development.
The conference aims to foster an international exchange of ideas on the challenges and opportunities associated with Energy Justice and Energy Transition. Discussions will explore the legal, regulatory and economic dimensions of the energy sector in Poland, across Europe and throughout the wider global community.
This year's conference continues the tradition established in Katowice in 2022, strengthening cooperation between researchers and practitioners while promoting dialogue on how to achieve fair and equitable outcomes in the energy sector. We particularly encourage contributions addressing issues of energy justice at the local, national and global levels, reflecting the interconnected nature of contemporary energy challenges and the need for coordinated responses.
The conference is organized by the University of Economics in Katowice: Department of Energy Transformation (Head: Professor Marzena Czarnecka). The conference is co-organized by: University of Pavia (Italy), Abu Dhabi University (United Arab Emirates) and European Federation of Energy Law Associations (France).

The conference has been organised through the joint initiative and cooperation of Professor Marzena Czarnecka and Dr Marcin Kraśniewski (University of Economics in Katowice), Professor Raphael J. Heffron (Abu Dhabi University), and Professor Katarzyna Gromek-Broc (University of Pavia), whose shared expertise and commitment have made this event possible.
We look forward to welcoming you to the Katowice later this year for the 4th International Academic Conference "Energy justice energy transition".
