About the University

University of Economics in Katowice was founded in 1936 and is one of the oldest business schools in the Upper Silesia, as well as one of five public economic universities in Poland. It is the region’s largest university offering education in the field of socio-economic sciences. From the beginning the University has focused on providing the best education in the area of contemporary economics and cooperation with business and public administration.

 

Education and science

Currently there are nearly 9000 students, including doctoral and postgraduate students, enrolled in the general academic and practical profile programs conducted in Polish and English at the Main Campus in Katowice and the Rybnik Branch.

Each year the University obtains and makes available to the students and graduates about 1600 recruitment offers, including more than 870 job offers and nearly 700 offers of commission contracts, paid internships, apprenticeships and contracts for specific work. There are about 150 current job offers available at any given time. 

The UE Katowice conducts research activities in the area of economics and finance, as well as the management and quality sciences. The research is carried within four Faculties: Faculty of Economics, Faculty of Finance, Faculty of Informatics and Communication and Faculty of Management.

Internationalization

Students and staff can benefit from numerous scholarships and programs abroad under nearly 400 international mobility agreements. On average, members of the academic community make more than 500 trips abroad each year, and the University itself hosts more than 300 foreigners.

The University has been consistently implementing its internationalization strategy. It is the first university in the Silesian voivodeship with the CEEMAN International Quality Accreditation (IQA), which is one of the most prestigious and valued accreditations in the area of managerial education. The University has also obtained eligibility and proceeds to the next steps of applying for the AACSB institutional accreditation and EFMD Program Accreditation for the Master in International Business program. 

Alumni

Over nearly 85-years since its founding the University of Economics in Katowice has educated more than 135 000 graduates, who are highly valued by employers.

The data from the 4th edition of a nationwide survey - "Monitoring the Economic Fate of Graduates of the Higher Education Institutions" (ELA) shows that in the Silesian voivodeship, from among all public higher education institutions, the alumni of the University of Economics in Katowice are the fastest to start work after obtaining their diploma (1.60 months) and to receive their first permanent employment contract (2.12 months).

Employer

The University of Economics in Katowice made it to the podium in the first edition of the best employers ranking published by the Forbes magazine ("Poland's Best Employers 2021"). The University took the 3rd place in the country in the "higher education and science" category and placed 43rd in the full ranking. The study organized by Forbes was conducted among 1 800 employers hiring at least 250 people in Poland and results were based on nearly 160 000 opinions expressed by respondents on 7 areas: image and growth, development and prospects, employee relations and management, wage, working conditions and equipment, sustainable development, and workload.
