Scope and thematic blocks
The scope of the conference issues
The edition planned for 2026 will be held under the theme: "URBAN DYNAMICS IN INTERDISCIPLINARY RESEARCH: FROM DIAGNOSIS TO VISION".
The proposed issues are important both from the perspective of contemporary scientific research and urban development practice, and respond to real cognitive and application needs.
Cities and urban areas are among the most complex and dynamic spatial systems today. The processes taking place within them - demographic, social and cultural, economic, technological, natural and political - interpenetrate and accelerate. Understanding them requires an interdisciplinary approach, integrating various languages of description, research methods, and scales of analysis. The presented research results will enable the identification of mechanisms of change, inequalities, risks, and development potentials that are not always visible in short-term strategies or current administrative decisions. Spatial planning, urban policies, adaptation to climate change, energy transition, and mobility management require in-depth analyses and collaboration between scientists, decision-makers, and practitioners. Furthermore, urban research is strategic in nature, as these areas are the focus of key contemporary challenges - from climate change and other crises to technological and cultural innovations. Discussing urban dynamics allows for a better understanding of the directions of these transformations and the conscious shaping of visions for more inclusive, resilient, and sustainable cities. The conference aims to create a space for confronting these research perspectives and developing comprehensive and new approaches to urban dynamics. The "from diagnosis to vision" approach emphasizes the need for continuity between empirical analysis and the formulation of long-term development scenarios, which is essential for the real shaping of cities. The conference will create opportunities for knowledge transfer, testing new research tools, and presenting solutions that can be implemented in practice.
Within the general scope of the conference, seven thematic blocks were distinguished.
Proposed thematic blocks
- The city as a subject of interdisciplinary research. How do different fields of knowledge contribute to our understanding of urban processes?
- The use of modern research tools (e.g. GIS, AI, urban sensors) in urban research;
- Diversity of urban development trajectories in the face of contemporary conditions;
- Designing cities in conditions of dynamic change;
- The real estate market, gentrification and financialization of urban space;
- Marginalization and peripheralization in urban areas;
- The transformation of post-industrial cities: between heritage and future.
Submitted papers and posters will be assigned to thematic blocks by the conference Scientific Committee, with the possibility of creating additional special sessions.
