Study visit of UE Katowice students to the Warsaw Stock Exchange
On November 28th, students of Artificial Intelligence and Data Analysis, Law in Management, Financial Analyst 2.0, and Finance and Accounting participated in a study visit to the Warsaw Stock Exchange. The event was implemented as part of the WSE Foundation's "Student Sessions on the Floor" project and was organized by dr Iwona Gorzeń-Mitka, an employee of the Department of Corporate Finance and Insurance.
The purpose of the study visit was to deepen students' practical knowledge of capital market laws in the context of cryptocurrency, as well as to expand their understanding of the principles of the capital market in Poland – in particular, the organization and operations of the Warsaw Stock Exchange, its operational structure, and the specific nature of listed financial instruments.
The program included a tour of the WSE headquarters, a screening of films presenting the institution's history, and participation in two expert lectures. The participants were welcomed by Alina Bączar, President of the Management Board of the Warsaw Stock Exchange Foundation. Mateusz Krawczyk hosted the meeting, who introduced the audience to the Foundation's educational initiatives for students.
The first lecture, titled "Understanding the Stock Exchange," was delivered by Krzysztof Sosnowski (Senior Product Manager, Market Development Department, WSE). The lecture explored the organization and operation of the Warsaw Stock Exchange. Participants learned about the organizational structure of the WSE, the rules of stock exchange trading, and the specifics of selected financial instruments. Investment strategies for beginner investors were discussed in particular, which generated considerable interest among the audience.
The second lecture, titled "Capital Market Law - Selected Aspects," was delivered by Michał Karwasiński (Legal Counsel, Karwasiński, Szpringer i Wspólnicy s.j.). In his presentation, he presented issues related to financial instruments in the context of cryptocurrencies, explaining, among other things, the importance of cryptocurrency exchanges. Key MiCA and ESMA regulations, as well as requirements imposed on entities trading in cryptocurrencies, were discussed. The lecture's topic was particularly relevant both to the teaching sessions conducted by Dr. Iwona Gorzeń-Mitka, Eng., in the subjects "Finance in the Digital Economy" and "Finance Fundamentals," and to the research conducted by the faculty of the Department of Corporate Finance and Business Insurance.
Both presentations generated significant interest from the audience, as evidenced by their active participation during the question-and-answer sessions.
