We invite you to an open event titled "Voting paradoxes - elections through the eyes of an economist", which will take place on March 21, 2024 at 10:00 at Kato Science Corner

Collective decision-making concerns various areas of collective human action. Examples of such activities include general elections, decisions made at general meetings of shareholders, adoption of legal regulations, and determination of court judgments. Humans have been making collective decisions for thousands of years, and the choice procedures they use vary greatly.

However, scientific analysis of the electoral process dates back just over two hundred years. The obtained results indicated non-obvious properties of voting. The study of the properties of public decision-making remains the subject of interest in social sciences, including economics, to this day, and has resulted in the awarding of a total of five Bank of Sweden awards. Alfred Nobel to eight economists.

The aim of the event is to present the issue of collective decision-making in the most accessible way possible, based on abstract and real examples.
