Regulations for the use of computer rooms and wired and wireless access points in the IT Centre

  1. Computer workstations are provided in the IT Centre to conduct teaching processes and/or conduct research and/or perform specific tasks for the University of Economics in Katowice. It is prohibited to use them for other purposes. In the event of a violation of these regulations, the right to use the workstations provided may be denied.
  2. Computer workstations may be used by students and employees of the University of Economics in Katowice, as well as by other authorized persons, hereinafter referred to as users.
  3. As a result of the supervision of computer workstations provided by the employees of the IT Centre, the user is obliged to follow the instructions given by the IT Centre employees, as well as the guidelines and instructions specified by the IT Centre employees in order to properly use the workstation(s).
  4. The user is entitled to obtain the keys / access card to the room in which the workstations are located, in accordance with the defined access rights to this room. The person obtaining the keys is responsible for:
    1. allowing or not allowing other users to use the workstations,
    2. preventing the stealing of the equipment of the workstations,
    3. ensuring that no manual modifications are carried out to the equipment installed in the facility ( disconnecting network cables, keyboards, mice, etc.) and that private equipment (laptops, tablets, etc.) is connected only in the designated areas;
    4. locking the room at the end of the work and giving back the key / access card.
  5. A user allowed to use a computer workstation is obliged:
    1. to properly use the computer workstation, in particular not to disconnect the components of the workstation, including signal and power cables,
    2. to react to failures of the workstation, erroneous or harmful activity within the workstation, by notifying the user conducting the course or directly to an employee of the IT Centre,
    3. not to run computer games unless it is related to the execution of the curriculum by the user,
    4. to obtain the consent of the administrator – employee of the IT Centre – before installing any software on any workstation,
    5. to obtain the consent of the administrator – an employee of the IT Centre – before making any changes in the configuration of the workstation(s),
    6. to cancel all changes made to the workstation immediately after the end of the work, in particular in the area of directory structure and configuration, as well as to restore application parameters and map network drives,
    7. to log out and tidy up the workstation space.
  6. A user allowed to use a computer workstation must not:
    1. influence the normal operation of computer systems using software or other activities, such as bypassing security, damaging configurations, or damaging hardware,
    2. storage of large amounts of data on disk,
    3. violate the privacy of other users, 
    4. use private or IT Center hardware and software for illegal activities, e.g. hacking into computers, sending SPAM, sending threats by e-mail, disseminating pornography, copying illegal software and copying software installed on local and network drives purchased by the University for educational purposes,
    5. eat and drink at computer workstations,
    6. make changes in BIOS configuration, configuration and system files without the consent of the lecturer or employee of the IT Centre, delete software files and perform operations threatening to damage the files or physical changes in the disk structure,
    7. use computer workstations in IT Centre for entertainment (games, films, music, etc.).
  7. If it is necessary to reinstall or reconfigure a workstation(s), the user may notify the IT Centre employee at least 30 days in advance of such need. The administrator managing the workstations has the right to refuse such installation if they do not have appropriate licenses or if the correct operation of other software installed on the workstations is endangered.
  8. The software purchased by the IT Centre is licensed, so its copying will be treated as theft.
  9. In case of detecting any threat to the network security of the University of Economics in Katowice or acting to the detriment of third parties, the administrator has the right to block access to the above mentioned computer network without notifying the user. In case of any doubts, please contact the staff of the IT Centre.
  10. The IT Centre is not liable for any loss of user data from computers installed in teaching rooms and private computers connected to the computer network of the University of Economics in Katowice.
