Rules and requirements for passing the course "PHYSICAL EDUCATION" in the winter semester of the 2026/2027 academic year
September 29-30 2026, course selection will take place, enabling students to fulfil the Physical Education module as part of their degree programme. This selection process is intended for full-time first-cycle students on the Finance and Accounting for Business programme (1st year).
Before making your selection, we encourage you to familiarise yourself with the information regarding enrolment, deadlines and the rules for selecting classes. Below, we outline the most important points to consider when choosing your classes.
Failure to enroll in Physical Education classes will result in the inability to pass the module and will entail consequences in accordance with the Study Regulations.
Forms of delivery for the Physical Education module
Physical Education classes are compulsory and may be delivered in one of the following forms:
- physical activity sessions (swimming, team sports, etc.)
- AZS club sessions held at the University of Economics in Katowice,
- membership of the SILESIANIE Song and Dance Ensemble at the University of Economics in Katowice,
- membership of the Choir at the University of Economics in Katowice,
- membership of the Theatre at the University of Economics in Katowice,
- classes for those with a medical exemption from physical activity-related classes,
- remedial classes tailored to the individual needs of students with disabilities.
Registration dates for physical education classes will vary depending on the type of class.
Each student may enroll in only one type of course. If a student enrolls in more than one type of course, only the first choice will be approved.

Re. 2-5 Students who will be completing the Physical Education module through membership of AZS UE in Katowice, the SILESIANIE Song and Dance Ensemble, the Choir or the Theatre
Members and those planning to join the AZS, SILESIANIE, the Choir or the Theatre are required to register for physical activity classes (Re. 1). Until 29 October 2026, it is possible to opt out of physical activity classes and replace them with the classes listed in points 2-5.
Students may choose one of two ways to complete the Physical Education module:
- to pass the module by attending physical activity classes, whilst treating membership of the chosen section as an additional activity, or
- to complete the Physical Education module through membership of the AZS, SILESIANIE, the Choir or the Theatre. In this case, a completed declaration of withdrawal from physical activity classes must be submitted to the Dean’s Office by 29 October 2026.
Re. 6 Students with medical contraindications to participating in Physical Education classes
Students who, on the basis of a relevant medical certificate, are exempt from classes involving physical activity, are required to pass the Physical Education module by attending classes, the format of which is determined by the Dean of the Undergraduate and Graduate Studies.
- A long-term exemption from classes involving physical activity (physical exercise classes) may be granted by a specialist doctor or a GP. The content of the exemption must clearly state that it relates to Physical Education classes. The original copy of the exemption must be submitted, bearing the doctor’s personal stamp and the stamp of the medical facility.
- The certificate may cover one semester of classes or the entire academic year.
- The original paper copy of the certificate must be submitted for inspection at the Dean’s Office to the member of staff responsible for your degree programme by 9 October 2026 at the latest (this applies to exemptions for the whole academic year or for the winter semester). The certificate must be submitted in paper form only – it cannot be submitted in any other format. Failure to submit the certificate by the specified deadline will result in the student being enrolled in a physical activity class where a place is currently available.
- The course comprises 30 hours of classes in the winter semester.
- Attendance at classes is compulsory. Unexcused absence from more than 2 classes will result in failure to pass the Physical Education module for the semester.
- The course concludes credit with grade every semester.
Re. 7 Students who will be credited for the Physical Education module by attending remedial classes tailored to their individual needs arising from a disability.
Remedial Physical Education classes are intended for students with a disability certificate. They are tailored to the individual needs and abilities of students with disabilities and constitute one of the available ways of undertaking and passing the Physical Education module.
Students who wish to attend remedial classes should:
- Notify the programme coordinator at the Dean’s Office of their wish to take part in remedial classes.
- By 29 October this year, complete the registration questionnaire and attach a copy of their disability certificate. Students who do not speak Polish are invited to visit the Accessibility Centre directly to complete the form.
- By 29 October this year, submit an online application for support with physical education. Students who do not speak Polish are invited to visit the Accessibility Centre in person to complete the application for support with physical education.
