How to use public transport in Katowice
There are two easy ways to use public transport in Katowice and the GZM Metropolis area:
Option 1: Buy a Ticket Directly on the Bus or Tram
Almost all buses and trams in the GZM network are equipped with modern ticket machines where you can pay by card.
How to buy a ticket
- Find the yellow ticket machine inside the vehicle.
- On the main screen, select the type of ticket you want.
- Choose the number of tickets.
- Press “Go to payment”.
- Tap your payment card or phone on the contactless reader.
Your ticket is automatically validated after payment.
Important information
- You do not need to create an account or install an app.
- You can pay with:
- contactless bank card,
- phone/watch (Apple Pay, Google Pay).
- The machine does not print paper tickets.
- During ticket inspection, simply show the same payment card/device used for purchase.

Travel by airplane
Katowice International Airport (KTW)
- Around 30-40min from Katowice.
- Direct bus connections to the city via Metropolitan line AP (Airport–Katowice), included in the local ZTM ticketing system (tickets valid on regional transport). The bus stops at the Katowice Bus Station. For more details, visit the ZTM website. The cost is approximately 7 PLN (1,7 EUR)
- Shuttle services and private bus transfers (e.g., Matuszek Transport, Flixbus) operating between the airport and Katowice city centre are avaliable.
- Ride-hailing services: Uber and Bolt are also available.
- Taxi services: Various taxi companies operate at the airport. For example, Lider taxi offers transfers to Katowice for approximately 130 PLN (32 EUR).
It is recommended to book the taxi in advance, indicating the flight number, as taxis taken directly from the taxi rank may charge higher prices. Card payments are accepted in all taxis if requested when booking)
Kraków John Paul II International Airport (KRK)
- Around 60-80min from Katowice.
- Direct coach services (e.g., FlixBus and other operators) between KRK and Katowice (bus station or direct regional links) for approximately 50-80 PLN (12-19 EUR)
- Another way to get to Katowice is to go to Kraków city centre and then take a train to Katowice from Kraków Główny (Central Train Station) (frequent regional and intercity services). Trains are operated by PKP – Polish National Railways and a ticket costs approximately 45–55 PLN (11–13 EUR).
- Ride-hailing services: Uber and Bolt are also available.
- Taxi services: Various taxi companies operate at the airport. For example, Lider taxi offers transfers to Katowice for approximatel 320 PLN (75 EUR).

Travel by train
Long-distance trains:
