Closing Ceremony of the Uni Buddies 2023/2024 Program

On June 21, 2024, the closing ceremony of the Uni Buddies program took place. This year's volunteers had the opportunity to meet with Prof. Sławomir Smyczek, Ph.D., Vice-Rector for Education and International Relations, and Edyta Lachowicz-Santos, Director of the Internationalization Office. During the event, certificates were presented to honor the commitment of our Polish and international volunteers. The event was organized by the Welcome Point staff.

During his address, Prof. Sławomir Smyczek highlighted the significant role of volunteers in the labor market. He noted that the competencies gained from working in an international team are highly valued by employers, especially in large corporations. He remarked:

”Volunteering is not just a job, but a mission. Volunteers give their time, share their feelings, experiences, and emotions, which makes their involvement unique”.

The most dedicated Uni Buddies received special awards

  • Magdalena Wojtyła
  • Natalia Jasik
  • Mirna Elmalah
  • Anna Shcherbinina
  • Yevheniia Korzh
  • Sandra Topolska

The meeting was an excellent opportunity to share achievements and future plans, as well as to engage in inspiring conversations. There was also a sweet surprise for the participants.

Uni Buddy

The Welcome Point at our university was established to make foreign students feel at home. Its success is largely due to the efforts of Uni Buddies - volunteers who help new students navigate life at our university. Uni Buddies are students from the University of Economics in Katowice who assist their international peers in acclimating to their new environment and accompany them in their first steps at the university, in the city, and in the country.

Volunteers work closely with the Welcome Point service center, which supports students, doctoral candidates, and international staff. They participate in organizing numerous educational and integration events, share their interests, and give tours of their favorite spots in Katowice. They are also present at the Global Village, where international students showcase their cultures and traditional dishes.

More information can be found [here].

Uni Buddies is an international group, consisting not only of Poles but also students from Ukraine, Egypt, Russia, Pakistan, Turkey, Algeria, Belarus, India, and Vietnam.
