Integration Week for foreign students

From September 23-27, we held an Integration Week for foreign students entering undergraduate, graduate and doctoral students studying at our University, as well as for participants in international exchanges such as Erasmus+. This semester we welcomed as many as 200 students from nearly 40 countries.

The purpose of the Integration Week was to give foreign students the opportunity to establish relationships with colleagues from Poland and other countries. During this time they got to know the region, the city and our University. On the first day of their stay at our University, the students were welcomed by: Vice-Rector for Teaching and International Relations prof. dr hab. Wojciech Dyduch, Director of the International Cooperation Office Edyta Gałecka and Director of the Internationalization Office Edyta Lachowicz-Santos, as well as representatives of Student Services, the Student Parliament, the Accessibility and Disability Support Center and the Academic Sports Association Katowice.

The program included numerous activities, such as Polish language workshops, a field game on campus, a visit to the Silesian Planetarium and the Silesian Museum, and team-building games.

The highlight of the event was the Global Village, which took place on September 27. Students from different countries presented their traditions, costumes, as well as food and drinks. Eating food together is something that truly brings people together. Thus, we were able to experience the flavors of Spain, Serbia, Brazil, Germany, Ukraine, Taiwan, Italy, France, Portugal, Turkey, Japan, the Netherlands and Egypt, among others. In addition, we had the opportunity to admire the traditional costumes of students from Ukraine and Egypt, among others.

The Song and Dance Ensemble “Silesians” of the University of Economics in Katowice also performed during the Global Village, presenting traditional Polish dances. Students from Spain, Turkey and Ukraine also showed their national dances, enriching the event with cultural diversity.

The event was organized by the Welcome Point team (Internationalization Office) and the International Relations, with the support of Polish and foreign Uni Buddies, who actively assisted in the integration.

The event was held in cooperation with the Basecamp dormitory in Katowice, and our Uni Buddies took care of Polish hospitality by serving traditional dishes and pastries.

We extend a warm welcome to all new students and wish them a great experience studying at #UEKatowice!
