The UEKat International Community Welcomes the New Academic Year: Integration Week and Adaptation Days 2026/2027 Come to an End

The University of Economics in Katowice has once again become a meeting place for the international academic community. Even before the start of the winter semester of the 2026/2027 academic year, our university was bustling with activity thanks to two events: Integration Week (September 21–25, 2026) and Adaptation Days (September 28–30, 2026). More than 260 students from nearly 40 countries around the world took part in the events, including those beginning their bachelor’s and master’s degree programmes, as well as students participating in international exchanges through the Erasmus+ programme.

Integration Week

The official opening of Integration Week brought together numerous representatives of the university’s academic authorities and key departments. The guests were welcomed by Edyta Lachowicz-Santos, Director of the Internationalization Office. During the official ceremony, representatives of the Dean’s Office and the Office of International Relations also addressed the audience, introducing the new members of our community to the university’s structure and the practical aspects of studying at UEKat.

The Integration Week programme combined academic activities with a rich selection of social and cultural events. Participants took part in practical Polish language workshops designed to help them take their first steps in the country. The programme also included Speed Friending activities, a guided tour of the university campus, and the “Multilanguage Meeting”.

An equally important part of the event was introducing newcomers to the rich history and cultural identity of Upper Silesia. Students visited the exhibitions at the Silesian Museum and explored the historic workers’ housing district of Nikiszowiec. The programme was rounded off with a full-day integration trip to Kraków.

Once again, the highlight of the week was Global Village, which took place on September 25 at Basecamp by Xior Katowice. During this special event, students from all over the world presented the traditions of their home countries, sharing regional dishes, music, and unique customs with the academic community.

Adaptation Days

Shortly after Integration Week came to an end, the Welcome Point team organized three days of Adaptation Days, designed to help international students settle into their studies and adjust to everyday life in Katowice.

The first day, September 28, 2026, was dedicated to a question-and-answer session (Q&A) at Welcome Point, where participants could obtain practical information about studying and living in Poland.

Over the following days, students took part in activities designed to help them discover the city and connect with other participants. On Tuesday, September 29, they joined an interactive city game called “Discover Katowice”, competing in teams to explore some of the city’s most interesting spots.

Adaptation Days concluded on Wednesday, September 30, with a “Scavenger Hunt” in Silesian Park. The winning teams were rewarded with an additional attraction: a ride on the “Elka” cable car.

Collaboration

The events were organized in collaboration with the Office of International Relations and the Welcome Point team, which operates within the Internationalization Office.

Volunteers from the Uni Buddy programme played a vital role in organizing the events and ensuring their smooth running. Polish and international students serving as mentors supported their new peers from their very first moments on campus, helping them settle into their new surroundings and build relationships based on mutual trust and support.

We wish all new students a successful academic year, a rewarding university experience, and many unforgettable moments in Katowice and Upper Silesia!
