As part of the “Karol’s birthday” celebration held in March, marking the 150th anniversary of the birth of Prof. Karol Adamiecki, a knowledge quiz on his life and work was conducted among our University students and candidates.
The event featured numerous attractions, including sweet birthday surprises and awards for the best participants. The quiz winner was Katarzyna Radwańska, student of the Faculty of Management at the UE Katowice! The awards were presented to the best contestants by the Rector and the Mayor of Dąbrowa Górnicza.
“Karol’s birthday” began with a knowledge quiz on Karol Adamiecki’s life and work, conducted at the Advanced Information Technology Centre. The 12 participants were supported by members of the academic community and the guests of honor invited to the special presentation session dedicated
to the 150th anniversary of the birth of Prof. Adamiecki. The contestants had prepared for the quiz by browsing a website devoted to Prof. Adamiecki’s biography and following the link related to the event on Facebook. Katarzyna Radwańska, a first year student of Managerial Finance, proved to be the best among the 5 participants who qualified for the final round. I was just lucky to win, she emphasizes. It was by pure chance that I participated in the quiz. Before it started, I had looked through the tips published on the Facebook page of the event. I followed my intuition and it was right, as usual. I knew some facts about Karol Adamiecki from the lectures on Basic Concepts and Principles of Management. In spite of her wide-ranging interests, the winner chose to study at the University of Economics in Katowice, attracted by the name of the field of study ‘Managerial Finance’. I don’t regret my choice, she says. All the time we hear that the years at university are the beast years of our lives, and I can confirm this is true.
Awards were presented to the best contestants by the Rector Prof. Leszek Żabiński, and Zbigniew Podraza, Mayor of Dąbrowa Górnicza – the city where Karol Adamiecki was born. The participants enjoyed numerous attractions, including the 150 sweet jubilee cupcakes which were baked especially for this occasion. All attendants also had the opportunity to have their selfies taken against the step-and-repeat, and post the pictures on social media; they could also follow the instawalla# urodzinyKarola live.
17 March, the day of the 150th anniversary of Karol Adamiecki’s birth, was announced as a day free of tests (both written and oral) at the University of Economics in Katowice. This was meant to generate interest among students in the life and work of Karol Adamiecki. The event was organized at the initiative of the Vice-Rector, Prof. Sławomir Smyczek, and the Promotion and New Media Bureau.
