With the official Inauguration of the 2026/2027 Academic Year, the University began the celebrations of its 90th Anniversary under the slogan "90 Years of UE Katowice. It Counts!". On the one hand, the anniversary slogan refers to what we do as a university of economics - counting, analysing, working with data and making knowledge-based decisions. On the other hand, "it counts" simply means: it matters, it is important, it has value. And it is precisely this meaning that takes on particular significance in the anniversary year.
Since 1937, the University of Economics in Katowice has continuously contributed to the development of the Silesian Voivodeship, responding to the changing needs of the region and actively participating in its life. Over nine decades, it has become an important centre of education, research and scientific development, as well as a place where knowledge, ideas and commitment translate into concrete actions and a tangible impact on the surrounding environment.
The University's 90-year history is a story of people, ideas, knowledge, achievements and shared experiences that have shaped - and continue to shape - our academic community. The Anniversary is therefore an opportunity to look back, but also to emphasise what counts today and what will matter in the future - the commitment of the entire University community, the quality of education and research, cooperation, responsibility and the impact we make together on our surroundings. The highlight of the celebrations will be University Day, when we will celebrate the 90th Anniversary of the University's establishment and recall that, for nine decades, it has been people, their knowledge, passion and joint efforts that have made UE Katowice count.
Today, we look with pride at the achievements of successive generations of our academic community while also looking to the future - to what matters for the region, its residents and future generations.
As HM the Rector prof. dr hab. inż. Celina M. Olszak emphasises, referring to the main theme of the Anniversary, "90 Years of UE Katowice. It Counts!":
The University is the shared achievement of successive generations. We owe our academic accomplishments, academic traditions, the trust of our community and the University's good reputation to those who built it before us. Our task is to develop this legacy and pass it on to those who come after us, enriched by our own ideas, achievements and experiences. Today, we are the heirs to almost ninety years of history and we are responsible for its continuation.
