On December 18, 2024, a unique event was held - Christmas Meeting for foreign students and volunteers of the UniBuddy volunteer program. The meeting aimed to integrate the international academic community and celebrate the Christmas atmosphere in the spirit of cultural diversity.
Participants were warmly welcomed by the Vice-Rector for Teaching and International Relations prof. dr hab. Wojciech Dyduch, who emphasized the importance of the international community of our university and welcomed students from more than 20 different countries, studying in undergraduate and graduate programs, the Doctoral School and international exchange programs. The event was attended by students from Azerbaijan, Belarus, Cameroon, Colombia, Egypt, Spain, the Netherlands, France, Germany, India, Iraq, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Poland, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Tanzania, Turkey, Ukraine and Vietnam. An important highlight was the mention of cultural diversity, which enriches the academic community. During the speech, attendees were able to hear what “Merry Christmas” sounds like in the languages represented by the attendees.
Polish traditions and customs related to Christmas were then presented, allowing the foreign students to learn more about the local culture. The key moment of the meeting was the sharing of the Christmas wafer. Participants were eager to take part in this tradition, making new friends and sharing wishes.
Another highlight of the program was a joint Christmas dinner, during which traditional dishes were served. The atmosphere was filled with a festive mood, and the participants were able to savor the dishes and exchange impressions. The evening was enhanced by the singing of Christmas carols in different languages, which created an unforgettable atmosphere of international joy.
Small gifts were also distributed during the event, which brought many smiles to the participants. At the end, everyone was invited to enjoy Christmas poppy seed cake, cheesecake and gingerbread. It was a time to talk about Christmas traditions from different parts of the world, which further enriched the atmosphere of the evening.
The Christmas Meeting was an unforgettable event that showed the importance of building an international community based on respect, openness and the joy of spending time together. Thank you all for your presence and creating this magical atmosphere!
