Inter-University Inauguration of the Academic Year 2024/2025 in the European City of Science Katowice 2024

On September 27, one of the most important academic events will be held: the Inter-University Inauguration of the Academic Year 2024/2025 in the European City of Science Katowice 2024. The celebrations begin at Katowice Market Square at 3 p.m. with performances of folklore ensembles and a traditional march of the academic processions, and then at 4 p.m. the ceremony will continue in the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra (NOSPR) in Katowice.

Ceremony program:

11:00 AM – 1:00 PM

  • Wish Concert – a special edition of the Radio Nowy Świat broadcast, live from Klub Rawa, spinPLACE, Bankowa 5, Katowice. Hosted by: Joanna Kołaczkowska, Prof. Ryszard Koziołek – Rector of the University of Silesia

12:00 PM, Katowice, Rynek (The Main Square)

  • Science village of the European City of Science Katowice 2024
  • Performances by folklore ensembles: Academic Dance Ensemble of the Silesian University of Technology "Dąbrowiacy", Student Song and Dance Ensemble "Katowice" of the University of Silesia, Song and Dance Ensemble "Silesianie" of the University of Economics in Katowice.

The official part of the ceremony:

  • ceremonial march of the academic processions,
  • ceremony opening and inauguration speeches,
  • matriculation and oath of doctoral students,
  • opening lecture - prof. Norman Davies "Knowledge and ignorance: does the West understand everything?". 

Artistic performances during the official part: Cieszyn Brass Band of the University of Silesia, “Harmonia” Choir of the University of Silesia, Academic Choir of the Silesian University of Technology, Choir of the Medical University of Silesia in Katowice and Choir of the University of Economics in Katowice.

Concert program

  • Stanisław Moniuszko – ballet music from “Hrabina” (“The Countess”) opera:
  1. „Zefir goniący Florę”,
  2. „Neptun na Wiśle”,
  3. „Taniec Satyrów”.
  • Antonín Dvořák – The Slavonic Dances op. 72, no 1, 2, 6 & 7,
  • Stanisław Moniuszko – Mazur from the opera “Straszny Dwór” (“The Haunted Manor”),
  • Szymon Bywalec – the conductor,
  • the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra. 
  • “Harmonia” Choir of the University of Silesia, Academic Choir of the Silesian University of Technology, Choir of the Medical University of Silesia in Katowice and Choir of the University of Economics in Katowice.
