On 7 March 2025, the Faculty of Finance at the University of Economics in Katowice held a scientific seminar titled Effective Investment in a Volatile Environment – Challenges for Science and Didactics. The seminar was organized by the Department of Investment in connection with the end of the professional work of its Head, Professor Krystian Pera, in order to integrate the scientific community and promote the issues of financial and real investments.
During the meeting, the scientific, educational and organizational achievements of Professor Krystian Pera – as a long-time employee of the University of Economics in Katowice, head of the Department of Investment, and member of the Committee for Sustainable Mineral Resources Management of the Polish Academy of Sciences – were summarized and honoured. Professor Krystian Pera has made a significant contribution to the development of research on the problems of assessing the effectiveness of real investments, and the implementation of option methods in investment decisions. Moreover, as a respected academic lecturer, he was awarded a Golden Pen in the Authority category in the academic year 2014/2015.
The seminar also provided an opportunity to continue the integration of the scientific community, facilitating the exchange of views and experiences related to financial and physical investments. During the seminar, employees of the University presented the following papers:

- Prof. U dr hab. Ewa Dziwok, dr Witold Szczepaniak: Systemic Risk and Climate Change: A Dual Impact of Transition and Physical Climate Risks on the Polish Banking Sector;
- Dr Radosław Cyran, Prof. UE dr hab. Adam Drobniak, dr Adam Polko: Real Estate in the Era of Transformation;
- Dr Rafał Buła, Prof. UE dr hab. Monika Foltyn-Zarychta: Individual Discount Rates For Money and Environmental Goods.
The seminar culminated with a speech by Professor Krystian Pera: What I would like to teach about, if I were starting my professional career today.
The participants also had the chance to listen to the commemorative reflections given by Her Magnificence, the Rector, Prof. dr hab. inż. Celina M. Olszak, who congratulated Professor Krystian Pera and thanked him for his many years of work and commitment to the formation and development of our Alma Mater.
