Principles of conducting classes in the summer semester 2022/2023

Dear Students,

in view of the beginning of the new semester and regarding the Rector's Order No. 12/2023 on the rules of organization of studies at the University of Economics in Katowice in the summer semester of the academic year 2022/2023, I would like to highlight a number of issues related to attendance on Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programs (both full-time and part-time).

Concerned with the quality of teaching at the University, but also aware of the needs of  students, I would like to remind you that in agreement with the Student Parliament of our University, it has been established that in the summer semester of 2022/2023, the following will be conducted online:

  • free choice electives in full-time studies,
  • lectures in part-time studies.

The remaining activities in the summer semester will be conducted as before – on campus of the University. Office hours and seminars will be carried out in the form determined by teaching instructors and supervisors after consulting with you.

The summer exam session is scheduled by the Teaching Schedule Unit and is available in your timetables.

In accordance with Rector's Order No. 12/2023, all exams are conducted on campus.

Credits are awarded in the same format the activities are carried out, i.e.

1. for full-time studies:

  • credits in free choice electives – in remote form,
  • other credits – on campus.

2. for part-time studies:

  • credits from lectures – in remote form,
  • other credits – on campus.

In exceptional cases, at the request of the instructor followed by the decision of the Dean of the School of Undergraduate and Graduate Studies, it is possible to change the form of credit/exam.

All teaching activities implemented in the summer semester, regardless of their form, must have their counterparts established on the Google Classroom platform, which is a space for communication between students and instructors and the provision of teaching materials for classes implemented on campus, among other things. In the case of distance learning, it is necessary to use Google Meet and other tools designated by the instructor to support remote communication.

If you do not receive an email invitation to attend a course, you should contact your teaching instructor.

I wish you all the best in the upcoming summer semester: gaining valuable knowledge, building meaningful relationships, obtaining great experience, and also developing passions, pursuing dreams, and achieving nothing but success!

Sincerely,

Prof. Sławomir Smyczek, Ph.D.

Vice-Rector for Education and International Relations
