The 6 th Silesian Science Festival Katowice [report]

Between December 3-5, the 6th Silesian Science Festival Katowice (ŚFN) was held at the International Congress Center. Our University was one of the co-organizers of the event!

Press conference

The entire event was initiated at the press conference announcing the 6th ŚFN, which took place on December 1 at the University of Silesia. Our University was represented in the press briefing by Vice-Rector for Science and Academic Staff Development Prof. Maciej Nowak, Ph.D.

Opening ceremony

The 6 th Silesian Science Festival Katowice officially began at 7:00 pm, December 3, with an opening ceremony held at the Silesian Planetarium. Our University was represented by Her Magnificence Rector Prof. Celina M. Olszak, Ph.D., Vice-Rector for Science and Academic Staff Development Prof. Maciej Nowak, Ph.D., and Director of Scientific Excellence Office Łukasz Korach, Ph.D.

Signing of the Erasmus+ cooperation agreement

On December 4, at the International Congress Center in Katowice, an official meeting with the media began the event during which representatives of the city of Katowice government and universities from the Silesian region signed a cooperation agreement to support Polish innovation through the university Erasmus+ program. The University of Economics in Katowice was represented by Rector Prof. Celina M. Olszak, Ph.D., Vice-Rector for Science and Academic Staff Development Prof. Maciej Nowak, Ph.D.

Activities during ŚFN

Lectures and workshops for ŚFN participants were held between December 4 and December 5. With six thematic areas and additional special zones, everyone were able to find something they are passionate about.

POP Science

Award During the festival, another event took place, namely, the POP Science award ceremony, held on December 4. One of the nominees in the category "Think globally, act locally – for academia (university staff)" was Bartłomiej J. Gabryś, Ph.D., from the Department of Entrepreneurship. In the category: "Think globally, act locally – residents of the Silesia" our alumnus, Michał Lorbiecki, was also nominated.

Candidate zone

Candidate zone was also present during ŚFN, on December 5 (Monday), where our University also had its stand! At our booth, we had a lot of fun surprises prepared for our prospective students: gadgets, contests and games.
