Tourism Week at the City of Science

From September 23-29, as part of the 50th European City of Science Katowice 2024, the University of Economics in Katowice will be hosting Tourism Week. Curated by Dr. Paweł Piotrowski from the Department of Management Theory and produced by Angelika Gagracz from the Marketing Center, this week-long event aims to explore the multifaceted world of tourism.

About Tourism Week

Tourism is a complex phenomenon with significant economic, social, and spatial impacts. It's constantly evolving and facing numerous challenges, such as climate change, urban gentrification, overtourism, the "Instagramification" of culture, and the rise of unconventional tourism forms like dark tourism.

During Tourism Week, participants will delve into ways to make tourism more resilient to change, learn about how tourism shapes our lives and societies, and discover new forms of travel. Through a series of walks, workshops, and panel discussions, the goal is to foster a more conscious approach to tourism, encouraging exploration even close to home.
