UEKat accessible / Accessible university
We would like to remind you that from November 1, 2021, the "UEKat accessible – a program to support the educational process for people requiring additional assistance" project is being implemented at our University. The project has received funding in the amount of PLN 1,698,576.00. The project’s main goal is to eliminate barriers at the University of Economics in Katowice that students with disabilities have to face, as well as introduce measures ensuring the curricula are accessible in order to make our University achieve the accessible university model.
The project includes the implementation of tasks in the following areas: adjustment of the organizational structure, elimination of architectural barriers, development of technological facilities and accessibility procedures, provision of educational support by adjusting recruitment and education standards for people requiring additional assistance, and provision of accessibility awareness training for administrative and teaching staff.
More recently, as part of ongoing project activities, a number of substantive training courses in the area of accessibility have been implemented and planned, including issues related to communication and service for people requiring additional assistance, working with people with mental health problems and autism spectrum disorders, as well as adapting didactic materials in electronic version for classes with visually impaired students. In addition, a sign language course is also being conducted for the University employees.
An Order providing accessibility to people requiring additional assistance has also been introduced. Furthermore, work continues on the preparation of a guide for students who require support during the recruitment and learning process, along with a guide for teaching staff on working with students requiring additional assistance, including the preparation of teaching materials.
In August 2022, construction work began to adapt our campus and make it accessible for people requiring additional assistance, as part of the project. As planned, the access ramp in front of Building A, the external elevators in Buildings B and C, the landscaping and cleanup of the area between Buildings B and C, including the development of parking spaces and an outdoor seating area, will be implemented. Furthermore, work is also currently underway on adapting the information and communication infrastructure for people requiring additional assistance, along with revamping the University website.
