On June 9, 2025, the University of Economics in Katowice hosted an inspiring meeting with MBA students and professors from the University of Malta. The group is visiting Poland from June 7 to 14, invited and hosted by dr Paulina Żmijowska from the Department of International Management, who is the originator, coordinator, and academic supervisor of the guests' stay in our country.
The visit follows the signing of a partnership agreement in August 2024 between L-Università ta' Malta and the University of Economics in Katowice, as well as a study visit to Malta in November 2024 by dr hab. Michał Kucia, prof. UE i dr Paulina Żmijowsk from the Department of International Management. The project has received the honorary patronage of HM the Rector of UE Katowice. Monday’s meeting, held in the Rectorate patio, was attended by Vice-Rector for Teaching and International Relations prof. dr hab. Wojciech Dyduch, Dean of the Faculty of Management dr hab. Adam Samborski, prof. UE, dr hab. Michał Kucia, prof. UE, as well as students of our university. Head of Department of International Management prof. dr hab. Maja Szymura-Tyc, also joined the meeting and discussions.
On the Maltese side, in addition to undergraduate and postgraduate MBA students, we hosted Prof. Emanuel Said, Dean of the Faculty of Economics, Management, and Accountancy of the University of Malta; Dr. Nathaniel Massa from the Department of Business and Enterprise Management within the same faculty; and Ms. Jennifer Vella, Manager of the Faculty of Economics, Management, and Accountancy.
During the meeting, the possibilities for further academic cooperation between the universities were discussed, including both educational and research collaborations, as well as student exchanges under existing programs.
The entire MBA study visit to Poland focuses on three main pillars related to management processes, human resources, infrastructure development, and direct investments in urban areas of various sizes: from large cities (Katowice, Kraków), through medium-sized cities (Bielsko-Biała), to small municipalities and local communities (Milówka). The guests are accommodated in Bielsko-Biała, and the visit program has been designed to support a joint academic project. During their stay, the MBA students will explore the socio-economic environment of the Silesian and Lesser Poland regions. They will meet with city authorities, business sector representatives, regional development agencies, as well as cultural institutions and non-governmental organizations.
Based on their experiences during the visit, the students will work in groups on a final project, which will be presented during a workshop on the last day of their stay in Poland. The project focuses on the impact of a selected environment (a local municipality, medium-sized town, or large urban agglomeration) on socio-economic development and depopulation. The visit will culminate in the creation of a joint academic report on strategies for managing the socio-economic environment in selected areas.
