Below you can find a list of programs, along with institutional and individual competitions, within the framework of which employees can obtain funding for projects of international nature.
The update occurs every two months (up to March 30, June, September, December).

Program/competition: Welcome to Poland

Who can apply?

The applicant may be an education provider in Poland, i.e.:

  1. a university, referred to in the Law on higher education and science;
  2. the Polish Academy of Sciences within the meaning of the Law on Polish Academy of Sciences;
  3. a scientific institute of the Polish Academy of Sciences within the meaning of the Law on Polish Academy of Sciences;
  4. research institute within the meaning of the Law on research institutes;
  5. an international scientific institute established under separate regulations, operating on the territory of the Republic of Poland;
  6. institutes operating within the Łukasiewicz Research Network framework, as referred to in Art. 7 (1) (6b) of the Law on higher education and science;
  7. federations of entities of the higher education and science system referred to in Art. 165 of the Law on higher education and science.
 
Main objectives

The primary objective of the program is to internationalize Polish higher education and science by financing projects related to:

  • building the internationalization potential of applicants,
  • building capacity for the admission and service of foreign students, doctoral students, teaching and research staff,
  • promoting applicants internationally, including through cooperation with foreign alumni.
 
Requirements/conditions for applying 
  • application submitted in Polish.
  • maximum number of applications submitted by institutions – 3.
  • partnership applications are allowed.

Who can apply?

The applicant may be an education provider in Poland, i.e.:

  1. a university, referred to in the Law on higher education and science;
  2. the Polish Academy of Sciences within the meaning of the Law on Polish Academy of Sciences;
  3. a scientific institute of the Polish Academy of Sciences within the meaning of the Law on Polish Academy of Sciences;
  4. research institute within the meaning of the Law on research institutes;
  5. an international scientific institute established under separate regulations, operating on the territory of the Republic of Poland;
  6. institutes operating within the Łukasiewicz Research Network framework, as referred to in Art. 7 (1) (6b) of the Law on higher education and science;
  7. federations of entities of the higher education and science system referred to in Art. 165 of the Law on higher education and science.
 
Main objectives

The program's main objective is to support institutions of higher education and science in developing sustainable solutions for teaching, scientific and implementation cooperation within the framework of strategic international partnerships. The results of the projects should form the basis for long-term cooperation between the entities establishing the partnership. The projects implemented under the program must be part of the long-term development policy of the applicant.

Specific objectives are as follows:

  1. implementation of cooperation between the applicant and foreign partners to develop and expand long-term systemic relations in the area of internationalization;
  2. building the applicant's potential in the international arena by promoting innovative solutions and best practices being the subject of the project. 
 
Requirements/conditions for applying 
  • Application submitted in Polish.
  • Maximum number of applications submitted by institutions – 3.
  • The program requires that the project be implemented in partnership with at least one strategic partner. The strategic partners must be universities or scientific units located and registered abroad, which are not financed by Polish state budget funds and which have signed a letter of intent with the applicant.
  • The number of strategic partners in a project can range from 1 to 6 institutions.
  • Supporting partners can be entities from Poland that belong to the authorized applicants category – the maximum number of supporting partners is 2.

Program/competition: STER Internationalization of Doctoral Schools

Who can apply?The program is aimed at Polish institutions that run doctoral schools and coordinate or participate in international exchange programs for doctoral students.
Main objectives

The program's main objective is to provide systemic support for the internationalization of doctoral schools.

The Agency offers Polish entities running doctoral schools a comprehensive system support package for a period of 3 years, the specific objectives of which are as follows:

  • improving the quality of training of doctoral schools and the research of doctoral students by applying international experience in these areas;
  • increasing the international mobility of doctoral students;
  • developing internationalization activities "at home";
  • supporting long-term international cooperation of doctoral schools;
  • attracting foreign doctoral students and supervisors;
  • scholarship support for doctoral students pursuing doctoral projects in international cooperation and aiming to obtain a joint or double degree.
 
Requirements/conditions for applying 
  • Application submitted in Polish.
  • Maximum number of applications submitted by institutions – 1.
  • Partnership applications are allowed.
The applicant is obliged to achieve all the indicators mentioned below at the end of the project's implementation:
  1. the number of foreign supervisors in the doctoral school included in the project must increase by at least 30% in relation to the number of foreign supervisors in the doctoral school as of the application submission date;
  2. the number of doctoral students who took part in scientific internships in foreign scientific institutions during the project implementation must increase by at least 40% in relation to the number of doctoral students participating in the internships as of the application submission date;
  3. the number of all doctoral projects international in nature, i.e. conducted in cooperation with foreign institutions, must increase by at least 30% in relation to the number of such projects in the doctoral school as of the application submission date;
  4. at the end of the project implementation, the applicant must show an increase in the number of foreign doctoral students by at least 10% compared to the number of foreign doctoral students as of the application submission date. If no indicators are available as of the application submission date, the applicant shall enter the value "0" in the application. In such a situation, the applicant is obliged to achieve a value of at least "1" at the end of the project.

Who can apply?

This program is aimed at:

1) Doctoral students, with the exception that in the case of doctoral students pursuing their education in a doctoral school, a student may apply for participation in the program if they have presented to the entity running the doctoral school an individual research plan referred to in Art. 202 (1) of the Act of July 20, 2018, Law on higher education and science;

2) Researchers or university teachers employed at the time of application in an entity that holds a scientific category.  
Main obectives

The purpose of the program is to support the international mobility of doctoral students, researchers, and university teachers in their pursuit of scientific excellence by enabling them to develop their research in foreign scientific and research centers around the world.

The program is open to doctoral students and researchers representing all science disciplines, and host units can be scientific or academic centers worldwide.

Mobility lasting from 3 to 24 months will enable participants to stay in recognized research centers, establish long-term cooperation and carry out projects together with distinguished scientists from abroad. Younger scientists will also have the opportunity to complete valuable post-doctoral traineeships, while doctoral students will be able to pursue part of their education.

The program provides funding for a scholarship that covers the scholarship holder's subsistence costs related to the scholar's stay at the host center abroad and a mobility allowance. The scholarship amount may be increased if the scholarship holder's spouse and underage children participate in the mobility, and, in the case of a scholarship holder with a recognized severe or moderate disability, a guardian.

Requirements/conditions for applying

The applicant attaches an invitation from the host center confirming the willingness to cooperate and accept the NAWA scholarship recipient for the requested time period.

The program is open to applicants from all scientific fields. There are no restrictions on the applicants' age or on the countries in which the host centers are located.

One applicant may submit only one application for funding in a given program call, covering a trip to one host center.

Program/ competition: Social Responsibility of Science 2nd Edition

Program/ competition: Social Responsibility of Science 2nd Edition (in Polish)

Who can apply?Universities, scientific institutes of the Polish Academy of Sciences, research institutes, entities conducting scientific activities.
Main obectivesThe program aims to support entities in the higher education and science system and other organizational units working for science dissemination in implementing projects popularizing science and projects related to the maintenance of library resources of significant importance to science or scientific heritage. 
Requirements/conditions for applying

To participate in the program, it is necessary to submit a project:

  • with a maximum implementation period of 24 months;
  • that does not include activities financed by other state funds;
  • where indirect costs do not exceed 10% of the direct costs financed with funds for higher education and science.

Program/competition: Metropolitan Science and Education Support Fund - World-class scientists in the Metropolis

Program/competition: Metropolitan Science and Education Support Fund - World-class scientists in the Metropolis (in Polish)

InstitutionMetropolis GZM
Who can apply?Higher education institutions located on the territory of Metropolis GZM.
Main objectivesThis area provides funding for projects in which lecturers from the highest-ranked universities in the world, winners of major awards, or notable figures in the art world will be invited to conduct classes and other activities at the Metropolis GZM universities.
Requirements/conditions for applyingFunding may be awarded to projects that meet the criteria for formal evaluation and one of the following requirements:
  • The university represented by the scientist belongs to the top 20 universities worldwide or top 30 European universities from the following rankings:
    • CWUR The Center for World University Rankings;
    • QS World University Rankings
    • ARWU Academic Ranking of World Universities (Shanghai ranking);
    • The Times Higher Education World University Rankings.
  • Scientist's achievements include a minimum of 5 key positions documenting scientific experience and achievements, including awards received e.g. Nobel, Oscar, Fields Medal, Templeton Prize, Mies van der Rohe Prize, Kyoto Prize, other awards not listed above, participation in Nobel Prize winning scientific teams, ERC grant winner, Highly Cited Researchers, other outstanding achievements.

Program/competition: Metropolitan Science and Education Support Fund - Support for research

Program/competition: Metropolitan Science and Education Support Fund - Support for research (in Polish)

InstitutionMetropolis GZM
Who can apply?Higher education institutions located on the territory of Metropolis GZM.
Main objectivesThis area provides funding for individual or team projects that implement:
  • scientific activities necessary for the process of obtaining a doctoral degree;
  • scientific and research projects conducted by researchers with a doctoral degree, including those in cooperation with cities and municipalities that are part of Metropolis GZM (a document, e.g., letter of intent, agreement, etc., defining the area and scope of research and scientific cooperation must be attached to the application).
 
Requirements/conditions for applyingFinancial support will be provided only to projects related to areas included in the GZM Development Strategy for the years 2022-2027, with an extension to 2035, or the Regional Innovation Strategy of the Silesian Voivodeship 2030 – Smart Silesia.

Main objectives

This area provides funding for projects involving the implementation of innovative (on a university scale) teaching programs aimed at students, in particular:

  • programs focused on active involvement of external partners (in particular public institutions, other universities, NGOs, business sector);
  • programs conducted in cooperation with the socio-economic environment of universities to develop innovative products and standards for universal services,
  • programs that deepen the possibility of practical training – learning through activities. 
 
Requirements/conditions for applyingFinancial support will be provided only to projects that relate to areas included in the GZM Development Strategy for the years 2022-2027, with an extension to 2035, or the Regional Innovation Strategy of the Silesian Voivodeship 2030 – Smart Silesia.

Main objectivesCooperation Partnerships (KA220): dedicated to organizations wishing to implement projects on a larger scale. These projects can be devoted to developing methods, tools, or results with high implementation potential, both at the national and international levels. The projects include broad international cooperation, involving producing educational results (training programs, vocational education courses) and exchanging experience. 
Requirements/conditions for applying

Partnership size: at least three institutions from three different program countries. Organizations based in non-affiliated countries of the program cannot participate as project coordinators but can be partners.

Duration: between 12 and 36 months.

Project budget: EUR 120,000, EUR 250,000 or EUR 400,000 (lump sums).

Note: The selection of budget amounts is made at the stage of completing the project application. The applicant organizations, together with their project partners, will have to choose the one-time lump sum that is most appropriate to cover the costs of their projects based on their needs and objectives. Applications must describe the activities and results that the applicants are committed to achieving within the requested lump sum.

Main objectivesSmall-scale partnerships are designed to widen access to the program to small-scale actors and individuals who are hard to reach in the fields of school education, adult education, vocational education and training, youth, and sport. With lower grant amounts awarded to organizations, shorter duration, and simpler administrative requirements compared to the Cooperation Partnerships, this action aims at reaching out to grassroots organizations, less experienced organizations, and newcomers to the program, reducing entry barriers to the program for organizations with smaller organizational capacity.
Requirements/conditions for applying

Partnership size: at least two institutions from two different program countries. Organizations based in third countries not affiliated with the program cannot participate.

Duration: between 6 and 24 months.

Project budget: EUR 30,000 or EUR 60,000 (lump sums).

Note: The selection of budget amounts is made at the stage of completing the project application. The applicant organizations, together with their project partners, will have to choose the one-time lump sum that is most appropriate to cover the costs of their projects based on their needs and objectives. Applications must describe the activities and results that the applicants are committed to achieving within the requested lump sum.

They aim to foster innovation in higher education, vocational education and training, businesses and the broader socio-economic environment. This includes addressing social and economic challenges such as climate change, demographic change, digital transformation, artificial intelligence and rapid changes in employment through social innovation and community resilience, as well as innovation in the labor market.
Requirements/conditions for applyingPartnership size:
  • Public or private organizations;
  • Alliances include at least 4 EU member states and third countries associated with the Program, including at least 8 organizations;
  • The partnership must include at least 3 labor market actors (companies/companies, chambers of commerce/trade, trade unions or industry associations) and at least 3 education and training providers (VET and higher education institutions);
  • Each application should include at least one university and one VET provider.

 

Duration: between 24 and 36 months.

Project budget: EUR 1,000,000 (2-year project), EUR 1,500,000 (3-year project).

Main objectivesInnovation Alliances are international projects in which partners work together to foster innovation, acquire new skills, develop a sense of initiative and an entrepreneurial mindset. They aim to foster innovation in higher education, vocational education and training, businesses and the broader socio-economic environment. This includes addressing social and economic challenges such as climate change, demographic change, digital transformation, artificial intelligence and rapid changes in employment through social innovation and community resilience, as well as innovation in the labor market.
Requirements/conditions for applyingPartnership size:
  • Public or private organizations from an EU member state or a third country associated with the Program, provided that they are partners in large-scale skills partnerships under the Pact for skills.
  • Alliances include at least 8 EU member states and third countries associated with the Program, including at least 12 organizations.
  • The partnership must include at least 5 labor market entities (companies/companies, chambers of commerce/trade, trade unions or industry associations) and at least 5 education and training providers (VET and universities).
  • Each application should include at least one university and one VET provider.

 

Duration: 48 months.

Project budget: EUR 4,000,000.

Main objectivesHigher education capacity-building projects are international cooperation projects that are based on multilateral partnerships, mainly between higher education institutions from participating countries and eligible partner countries.

The aim of these projects is to support eligible partner countries in the following activities:

  • modernizing, internationalizing and making higher education more accessible,
  • addressing the challenges facing higher education institutions and systems,
  • increasing cooperation with the EU,
  • promote voluntary alignment with EU higher education developments,
  • promoting people-to-people contacts, knowledge of other cultures and understanding.

Capacity-building projects typically focus on one of three main activities. These main activities include:

  • curriculum development activities,
  • modernization of governance and management of higher education institutions and systems, strengthening of relations between higher education and the wider economic and social environment.
 
Requirements/conditions for applyingFor projects involving more than 1 partner country, at least 2 eligible partner countries and at least 2 participating countries should be involved. The consortium should generally consist of at least:
  • 1 university from each participating country,
  • 2 higher education institutions from each participating partner country,
  • as many universities from partner countries as there are universities from participating countries.

For projects involving more than 1 partner country, at least 2 eligible partner countries and at least 2 participating countries should be involved. The consortium should generally consist of at least:

  • 1 university from each participating country,
  • 2 higher education institutions from each participating partner country,
  • as many universities from partner countries as there are universities from participating countries.

Duration: between 24 and 36 months.

Main objectives

The project involves the development of a high-quality joint graduate-level degree program that meets the following criteria:

  • jointly established criteria for student admission and joint selection;
  • joint rules for evaluation and examination;
  • joint financial and administrative rules;
  • joint language policy;
  • adopted clear rules for mutual recognition of the course of studies within the consortium;
  • joint service standard for students;
  • joint promotion and a single website;
  • joint diploma or several diplomas.

Support in preparation of high-quality graduate-level programs jointly implemented by an international consortium of higher education institutions from different countries around the world, as well as other organizations (not only educational) with particular expertise in a given discipline/thematic area and interest in their development.   

Requirements/conditions for applyingPartnership size :
  • A university from the EU, a third country associated with the program or a third country not associated with the program (universities from the EU or from a third country associated with the program must have a valid Erasmus Card for Higher Education - ECHE).
Duration: 15 months.

Project budget: EUR 55,000 (lump sum).

Main objectivesThe project involves the development of a high-quality joint graduate-level degree program that meets the following criteria:

  • All universities in the EU and from countries associated with the program must have a valid Erasmus Card for Higher Education (ECHE).
  • ECHE is not required for universities from third countries not affiliated with the program, but such institutions will have to follow its rules.
Duration: the consortium shall receive a grant for the 74-month period to fund at least four editions of the graduate-level program. The project should start no later than the following year after the call for applications.

Project budget:

  • institutional costs – EUR 750 per month/number of scholarship recipients: up to EUR 1,800,000 per project,
  • scholarships for students – EUR 1,400 per month: up to EUR 2,016,000 per project,
  • additional needs of students with disabilities – EUR 3,000 -120,000 per project, additional scholarships for third-country students not affiliated with the program: up to EUR 1,806,000 per project.

Main objectivesAs part of the Jean Monnet higher education action, teaching and research in the area of European Union studies is supported worldwide. EU studies serve:
  • Promoting European civic participation and European values;
  • include the role of EU in a globalized world;
  • disseminate knowledge about EU;
  • facilitate increased public involvement;
  • facilitate dialogue between people.

"Jean Monnet" activities are intended to become a vector of public diplomacy towards third countries, promoting EU values and strengthening the visibility of what the European Union stands for and aims to achieve.

"Jean Monnet" teaching and research must take one of the following forms: modules, departments and centers of excellence:

  • modules – short curricula or training in the field of European Union studies offered at a higher education institution (40 teaching hours) - max. EUR 30,000 in funding,
  • departments – teaching positions with specialization in the field of European Union studies (90 teaching hours) - max. EUR 50,000 in funding,
  • centers of excellence – centers of competence and knowledge on issues related to the European Union. Centers of excellence should bring together the expertise and competencies of valued experts in order to develop synergies between different fields and assets of European Studies ( as described above), and to create joint transnational activities – max. EUR 100,000.
 
Requirements/conditions for applyingApplicants must be:
  • higher education institutions;
  • established in an EU member state, a third country affiliated with the program, or a third country not affiliated with the program.
Higher education institutions established in EU member states and third countries associated with the program must have a valid Erasmus Card for Higher Education (ECHE).
ECHE is not required for participating higher education institutions from third countries not affiliated with the program.
