"Economic Nobel" at Kato Science Corner
On March 27, 2025, Kato Science Corner hosted a unique popular science event dedicated to the winners of the Alfred Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences of the Bank of Sweden, entitled:
"Economic Nobel – Daron Acemoglu, Simon Johnson, James A. Robinson". It was the second edition
of this event, which gathered students and secondary school pupils together with
teachers – all those interested in learning more about the 2024 Prize Winners and their
groundbreaking achievements.
The event was the result of cooperation between researchers from three academic centers:
- dr inż. Iwony Gorzeń - Mitka, dr Małgorzaty Lipowicz from the University of Economics in Katowice,
- dr inż. Moniki Sipy, dr inż. Katarzyny Łazorko from the Częstochowa University of Technology,
- dr. Agata Marcysiak from the University of Siedlce.
The meeting took the form of an interactive lecture with elements of gamification, which allowed participants not only to expand their knowledge, but also to actively participate in quizzes and discussions. The whole event was led by Dr. Eng. Iwona Gorzeń-Mitka from the Department of Corporate Finance and Business Insurance.
The event program included:
1/ A film report from the ceremony of presenting the Bank of Sweden Prize in the field of economic sciences, presenting the atmosphere and prestige of this unique distinction.
2/ Papers and activities prepared by students from three academic centers under the substantive supervision of the academic staff of the involved Universities:
- Economic Nobel – a few words about the Bank of Sweden Prize in the field of economic sciences presented by Natalia Niesmaczna and Bartłomiej Korczak from SKN FaMa Business Leaders Club from Częstochowa University of Technology
- Winners of the Bank of Sweden Prize in the field of economic sciences Alfred Nobel Prize 2024 – Professor James A. Robinson, presented by Michał Małek from SKN FaMa Business Leaders Club from Częstochowa University of Technology
- Winners of the Bank of Sweden Prize named after Alfred Nobel 2024 – Professor Daron Acemoglu, presented by Bożena Mikołajewicz from the Student Economic Club from the University of Siedlce
- Winners of the Bank of Sweden Prize named after Alfred Nobel 2024 – Professor Simon H. R. Johnson, presented by Kacper Gajda from SKN FaMa Business Leaders Club from Częstochowa University of Technology
- Social institutions as the foundation of prosperity – the prospect of the achievements of the Nobel Prize Winners 2024, presented by Zuzanna Walalatek and Adrian Kopacz from the Start-up Scientific Club from the University of Economics in Katowice.
3/ In the summary of the event, the participants tested their knowledge in an interactive quiz
"Do you know the Laureates and their achievements?" which combined learning with good fun. The quiz was conducted by Dawid Żebrak from the Start-up Scientific Club at the University of Economics in Katowice.
The meeting ended with the ceremonial presentation of occasional diplomas and gifts and confirmed that economics is not only about numbers, but above all about people, ideas and a real impact on the world we live in.
