The University Council is a body introduced by the Act of July 20, 2018 - Law on Higher Education and Science. Pursuant to the Statute of the University of Economics in Katowice, the University Council consists of six members appointed by the Senate, including at least three persons from outside the University community and, by virtue of the law, the Head of the Student Government.

The first University Council was appointed by a Resolution of the Senate of the University of Economics in Katowice of February 28, 2019. Its term of office ended on December 31, 2020.

Members of the University Council for the 2021-2024 term were appointed by a Resolution of the Senate of December 17, 2020.
