Expert lecture for students of Finance and Accounting for Business

Expert's lecture entitled „Value creation or compliance exercise? Real impact of ESG reporting".

On December 18, 2024, we had the pleasure of hosting dr Zofia Roguska from the EY Law law firm, who, at the invitation of dr Agnieszka Skręt-Bednarz, gave a lecture entitled "Value creation or compliance exercise? Real impact of ESG reporting". The meeting aimed to familiarize students with issues related to sustainable development and its impact on business activity, with particular emphasis on aspects that are necessary for effective implementation of sustainable development strategies in business.

Dr Zofia Roguska at EY manages the ESG team operating within the European Green Deal Competence Center, which supports businesses from a legal perspective in implementing new solutions regarding reporting on environmental protection activities, as well as social aspects and management issues. She has extensive experience in the area of ​​sustainable development reporting (CSRD, EU Taxonomy), sustainable finance and due diligence of companies in sustainable development activities.

Before joining EY, Zofia gained experience in EU and national public administration institutions (European Parliament, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Chancellery of the Prime Minister, National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management) and during many years of teaching at the Faculty of Law and Administration of the University of Warsaw.

Zofia is a graduate of the Faculty of Law and Administration of the University of Warsaw, majoring in law, where in 2024 she defended her doctorate with distinction on the impact of informal EU regulatory instruments (soft law) adopted in the area of ​​climate protection on the functioning of national administration bodies. At the Faculty of Law and Administration of the University of Warsaw, Zofia currently lectures on EU Climate Law as part of the EU Energy and Climate Law LLM studies.

During the lecture, which was addressed to students of Finance and Accounting for Business:

  • 1st semester of master's studies as part of the subject Corporate Social Responsibility and
  • 3rd semester of master's studies as part of the subject Corporate Governance

Dr Roguska shared her observations on the impact of ESG reporting on the development of enterprises. She focused on the challenges faced by enterprises implementing sustainable development strategies, and also discussed the importance of ESG reporting in the context of ensuring corporate governance.

During the lecture, students had the opportunity to learn about the current business perspective on ESG reporting requirements, the formal details of which they explored during lectures and exercises this semester.
