Guest lecture at Corporate Social Responsibility classes

On November 27, 2024, we hosted Professor Thomas Walker from Concordia University in Montreal, who, as part of Corporate Social Responsibility classes led by dr Agnieszka Skręt-Bednarz, gave a lecture on the impact of climate change on the stability of the financial sector.

Our Guest is a leading expert in the field of sustainable finance, in particular the risks associated with it. The Professor has an impressive academic record, including publications in recognized industry journals and books. He is the editor-in-chief of five publications on sustainable financial systems, sustainable real estate, sustainable aviation, environmental policy and emerging risk management. He has practical experience in consulting as well as management. He is also an active member of various advisory boards and steering committees, including the Concordia Institute for Water, Energy and Sustainable Systems and the CN Center for Sustainable Supply Chain Management.

Professor Walker visited our university at the invitation of dr hab. Ewa Dziwok, prof. EU, with which he has been conducting long-standing scientific cooperation.

As part of a lecture for students of the third semester of the Master's degree program in Finance and Accounting for Business, Professor Walker presented details of his research on the impact of natural disasters (such as hurricanes, earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, floods, etc.) on the solvency of the banking sector around the world, with particular emphasis on the United States as a financial market with exceptional fragmentation and decentralization.
