Our employees at the 9th Silesian Science Festival
The 9th edition of the Silesian Science Festival took place at the International Congress Center in Katowice from December 6-8, 2025.
Our department was represented by a team consisting of dr hab. Joanna Błach, prof. UE, and dr Małgorzata Lipowicz. On December 6, 2025, our experts gave a lecture popularizing science as part of the City of Science's Market of Ideas - Sensitive Economics Stage.
The lecture, titled "Financial Flowers," focused on the connections (symbolic and real) between the world of finance and the Plant Kingdom.
The lecture discussed topics such as plant symbolism on banknotes and coins, the origins of the first speculative bank using the example of Tulip Mania, the Sustainable Development Goals and the issue of flowers, and the financial aspects of the florist industry. The connections between linen, cotton, and vanilla and finance were also explained.
