Sustainable development in business practice – expert lecture by Dr. Maciej Gomółka from KPMG
On May 26, 2025, as part of the classes on the subject of Corporate Social Responsibility for students of the second semester of second-cycle studies in the fields of Financial Analyst 2.0 and Accounting and Controlling, a guest lecture was given by Dr. Maciej Gomółka - Associate Director of the ESG, Decarbonization and Biodiversity Team at KPMG Polska. The initiative was implemented thanks to the invitation of Dr. Agnieszka Skręt-Bednarz and Dr. Eng. Iwona Gorzeń-Mitka from the Department of Corporate Finance and Economic Insurance.
As part of the lecture entitled "Sustainable development and running enterprises. Financial, operational and legal aspects", Dr. Maciej Gomółka - a practitioner with many years of consulting and expert experience - presented the participants with a comprehensive view of the challenges and opportunities resulting from the implementation of ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) strategies in enterprises. Among other things, the following were discussed: current legal regulations regarding non-financial reporting (including CSRD), practical consequences of decarbonization for the operational activities of companies, as well as the impact of sustainable development strategies on the value of companies and their competitive position.
Students had the opportunity to familiarize themselves with current trends and practical examples of the impact of sustainable development issues on running businesses. The content presented during the meeting was met with great interest from students, as evidenced by their activity during the question and answer session.
The meeting was not only a valuable supplement to academic classes, but also an inspiring lesson showing how theoretical knowledge is combined with business practice and how important the role of ESG specialists is becoming in the transformation of the modern economy.
