UE Katowice students visit the Money Center
On November 7, 2024, students of Finance and Accounting and Law in Management at the University of Economics in Katowice, under the supervision of employees of the Department of Corporate Finance and Insurance: dr Małgorzata Lipowicz, dr inż. Iwona Gorzeń-Mitka, mgr Anna Sikora and mgr Krzysztof Pałęga, participated in a study visit to the NBP Money Center named after Sławomir S. Skrzypek in Warsaw. The study visit aimed to deepen students' knowledge of the importance of money in the economy by learning, among others, the history of money in the context of eras, events and institutions; principles, advantages and disadvantages of various monetary systems functioning in Europe, the history of Polish central banking (from the 18th century to the present day), the secrets of security measures used in Polish banknotes, the principles of operation and development of cashless payment systems.
Students could see both ancient coins and modern banknotes from various countries and unique exhibits, such as banknotes from the PRL era or collector coins. The zone related to banknote security, methods of detecting counterfeits and a visit to the "vault" also enjoyed great interest.
During the visit, students also had the opportunity to learn about the functions and tasks of the National Bank of Poland and the mechanisms affecting the financial stability of the country. During the visit, a short question and answer session was held, during which participants could ask questions about the financial system and the role of money in the modern economy.
The visit to the Money Center was an inspiring and valuable experience for students, which enriched their economic knowledge and understanding of phenomena occurring on financial markets.
