16th European Economic Congress [coverage]

The 16th European Economic Congress took place at the International Congress Center in Katowice between May 7-9. In terms of attendance, this edition beat a new record – the event was attended by 12,000 people. The first day saw the Inauguration Ceremony, during which our University was represented by Her Magnificence Rector Prof. Celina M. Olszak, Ph.D., D.Sc., Vice-Rector for Science and Academic Staff Development Prof. Maciej Nowak, Ph.D., and Vice-Rector for Development and Cooperation with External Environment Prof. Robert Wolny, Ph.D. Experts from our University participated in numerous panels and debates.

Inauguration Ceremony

Speakers at the Inauguration, which took place on May 7, 2024, at the International Congress Center, included Prime Minister of the Republic of Poland Donald Tusk, President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, Member of the European Parliament Jerzy Buzek, Marshal of the Silesian Voivodeship Wojciech Saluga, Governor of Silesia Marek Wójcik, Mayor of Katowice Marcin Krupa and Chair of the Management Board of Metropolis GZM Kazimierz Karolczak. The second part of the event featured a debate entitled. "Europe – transforming for the future".

Special debate with rectors of business universities

On May 8, a special debate was organized by the University of Economics in Katowice, entitled "Science as a driver of economic innovations – the assessment of the current situation and key challenges", moderated by Rector Prof. Celina M. Olszak. Her guests were the Rector of the Wroclaw University of Economics and Business, Prof. Andrzej Kaleta, the Rector of the Cracow University of Economics, Prof. Stanisław Mazur, Ph.D., the Rector of the Poznań University of Economics and Business, Prof. Maciej Żukowski, and the Rector of SGH Warsaw School of Economics, Prof. Wachowiak, Ph.D.

European City of Science Katowice 2024 session with our Rector

Additonally, there was also a session focusing on the topic of the European City of Science Katowice 2024. Our University was represented by Rector Prof. Dr. hab. Celina M. Olszak, with other participants in the session being Jerzy Buzek, Member of Parliament and Chairman of the EEC Council, Maria Mrówczyńska from the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, Marcin Krupa, Mayor of Katowice, Prof. Ryszard Koziołek, Ph.D., Rector of the University of Silesia, the Science Zone spokesperson, Aneta Moczkowska, Prof. Arkadiusz Mężyk, Ph.D., D.Sc., Rector of the Silesian University of Technology, and Michał Sikorski from the Warsaw University of Technology.

Czwartek, 9 maja

Ostatni dzień XVI Europejskiego Kongresu Gospodarczego rozpoczęliśmy od debaty z udziałem JM Rektor prof. dr hab. inż. Celiny M. Olszak pt. "Edukacja ekonomiczna". Jej moderatorem był dr Bartłomiej J. Gabryś z Katedry Przedsiębiorczości. W rozmowie wzięli udział przedstawiciele biznesu, uczelni wyższych, a także uczeń liceum należący do Młodzieżowej Rady Miasta Katowice oraz student UE Katowice, przewodniczący organizacji AIESEC.

Final gala of the competition – Manager of the Year 2023 of the Silesian Voivodeship

May 9 saw the final gala of the Manager of the Year 2023 of the Silesian Voivodeship competition, organized by Dziennik Zachodni in cooperation with the University of Economics in Katowice and the Competition Committee. Our University, which was also the substantive partner of the Competition, was represented by our Rector Prof. Celina M. Olszak, and Vice-Rector for Development and Cooperation with External Environment Prof. Robert Wolny.

2nd Abu Dhabi-Poland Business Forum

The 2nd Abu Dhabi-Poland Business Forum also took place on May 9. This very special event was officially opened by Jakub Chełstowski, Marshall of the Silesian Voivodeship between 2018-2024, and Rashed Al Blooshi, Undersecretary, Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development (ADDED). During the session on cooperation between the Silesian Voivodeship and the Abu Dhabi Emirate, our University was represented by Marcin Kraśniewski, Ph.D., from the Department of Energy Transition.
