1st International Conference on Economics of Climate Change

The 1st International Conference on Economics of Climate Change inaugurating the activities of the university's Center for Economics of Climate Change was held on October 23-24, 2023. The event was solemnly opened by the Vice-Rector for Science and Academic Staff Development, Prof. dr hab. Maciej Nowak.

The Center for Economics of Climate Change is being established within the framework of the ExCORE project, funded by NAWA ((NATIONAL AGENCY FOR ACADEMIC EXCHANGE, Strategic Partnership Programme).

On the first day, speakers paid attention to the economic aspects of climate change, presenting the areas of interest and main activities of the CECC. The opening lecture entitled "Companies' sustainability disclosures in the new and continually evolving landscape" was presented by Professor Yannis Tsalavoutas - a renowned researcher from the University of Glasgow. Also introduced were the latest CECC Erasmus+ Strategic Partnerships projects (REACCT and E.T. CAESE), which were discussed by dr ing. Aleš Lokaj, dr ing. Karel Hlaváček and dr hab. Monika Wieczorek-Kosmala, prof. UE.  

The second day of the conference was entirely devoted to the presentation of the ECOnomics4Climate project.

The "ECOnomics4Climate" project is a package of scientific and educational activities, within the framework of the promotion of issues falling within the field of economics of climate change. The project was prepared by the team involved in the establishment of the university's "Center for Economics of Climate Change (CECC)" and is the first result of the scientific and research activity of the CECC.  

Dr hab. Monika Wieczorek-Kosmala, prof. UE (project leader) presented its architecture, and members of the project team presented the results of individual activities. Dr Anna Losa presented the results of the university's cooperation with secondary schools within the framework of the "Greening ideas - climate campaign", and dr Rafał Buła summarized the experience of implementing the COILs method in education about the economics of climate change. The conference closed with a presentation of the results of research projects carried out under "Diverse trajectories of research in economics of climate change" - The speakers were dr Malgorzata Lipowiczmgr Aleksandra Swalekdr Anna Urbanekdr hab. Tomasz Ingram, prof. UE andprof. Steffen Andersen.
