On October 17, the 1st seminar dedicated to the projects of the Department of Machine Learning took place in the Auditorium of the Advanced Information Technology Center (CNTI) of our University, with an introduction by Rector prof. dr hab. inż. Celina M. Olszak.
The first to speak was dr hab. Jan Kozak, prof. UE, who, as the Principal Investigator of the National Centre for Research and Development (NCBiR)-funded project completed in September this year, outlined the experience of working on the project, along with applying artificial intelligence in the automatic translation of Polish into the Polish sign language.
Dr Tomasz Jach presented the objectives of the Department's project with STS S.A., as well as further plans related to the project under STS funding. This project, part of which has been completed, will be done in cooperation with the City of Katowice, with the remaining part included in the next application under the upcoming NCBiR's "Gospostrateg" program.
Dr Barbara Probierz talked about the completed project with a law company, as well as several smaller projects, such as OŚWIATA, which received funding from NCBiR.
During the discussion panel, dr Grzegorz Dziczkowski presented the objectives of the applications submitted to NCBiR, in addition to discussing the ongoing work on further projects at the Department.
Dr. Przemek Juszczuk presented environmental impact issues concerning CT brain scans, while mgr Piotr Stefanski talked about the possibility of automating counting processes in sports.
The last to speak was mgr Szymon Głowania who addressed issues related to the creation of an innovative method for creating ensembles of classifiers and the possibility of predicting sports results.
