The 7th edition of the Silesian Science Festival, themed "Science gives us the future," took place from December 9 to 11, 2023, at the International Congress Centre in Katowice. Nearly 90 experts from our University were involved in the Festival, offering participants 24 lectures, 9 workshops, and 5 demonstration booths. Six scientists took the stage at the Silesian Hall of Fame, four participated in the Scientific Kaleidoscope, and one conducted a session at the Science Stop.

On Saturday, December 9, 2023, the 7th Silesian Science Festival's official opening and the European City of Science Katowice 2024 celebrations took place at the International Congress Centre. The event was attended by representatives of the city of Katowice authorities, the Management Board of Metropolis GZM, and the authorities of higher education institutions associated with the Academic Consortium Katowice – City of Science. Her Magnificence Rector Prof. Celina M. Olszak, Ph.D., D.Sc, represented our University.
Our experts at the 7th Silesian Science Festival
On the first day, at the City of Science Ideas Fair, the "Young scientists up and running" discussion took place, featuring Her Magnificence Rector Prof. Celina M. Olszak, Ph.D., D.Sc., Paweł Rajwa, MD, Ph.D., Prof. Jacek Pietrucha, Ph.D., and Piotr Kieraciński.
The discussion covered topics such as the report "Science and Higher Education vs. GDP."
Six stages corresponding to the thematic paths of the City of Science were located for three days at the Ideas Fair, where participants had the opportunity to listen to exciting lectures by our experts.
POP Science Award
POP Science is a competition recognizing science popularizers from all over Poland. Awards are given in five categories, including 3 national, for video blog, blog or website, and podcast or radio program, along with "Think globally, act locally – university employee operating in the Silesian voivodship" and "Think globally, act locally – resident of the Silesian voivodship."
We proudly announce that Bartłomiej J. Gabryś, Ph.D., from the Department of Entrepreneurship, was awarded the POP Science Award in the category "Think globally, act locally – academic environment" during the 7th Silesian Science Festival in Katowice. Congratulations!

December 10 concluded with the Silesian Science Award ceremony gala.
The Silesian Science Award is granted by universities co-organizing the Silesian Science Festival to individuals who significantly contribute to the development of science, present outstanding artistic achievements, and promote Silesian science nationally and internationally. It can be awarded for the entire body of work or achievements obtained in the two years preceding the year of the award.
Prof. Ewa Ziemba, Ph.D., from our University, was the recipient of the Award. Vice-Rector for Science and Academic Staff Development Prof. Maciej Nowak, Ph.D., officially presented the Award. Congratulations!
