A reportage about our student on Japanese television

One of the largest Japanese TV stations - NHK World will broadcast a reportage entitled "Connecting Ukraine, Poland, and Japan" as part of its program "Sharing the Future". The reportage will focus on Yugo Azuma, a student of Finance and Accounting for Business here at UE Katowice, who supports Ukrainian families harmed by war as a volunteer. It will be screened on June 1, 2022.

Yugo Azuma from Japan, a student of Finance and Accounting for Business and an ambassador of WWN Foundation, together with his fiancée Marta, opened not only their apartment, but above all their hearts to Ukrainian families. After the Russian aggression against Ukraine, they took 6 people under their roof. Knowing their needs, Yugo asked his Japanese friends for support, and his request instantly and unexpectedly spread across the Japanese social media.

Within a few days, messages and offers of help for Ukrainian refugees, including financial and material aid, started pouring in from Japan. Its scale exceeded Yugo and Marta's expectations, so they asked the WWN Foundation for professional help in organizing further support. Their activities are aimed mostly at Ukrainian children who fled the country with their families. Thanks to a growing number of supporters, Yugo and Marta were able to deliver food and supplies to families in need in Katowice. However, the help did not end there.

As the war continues and prolongs, Marta and Yugo, supported by an NGO, are creating a daycare center to help Ukrainian mothers become more independent during their stay in Poland.

They have already arranged the arrival of volunteers, including entrepreneurs, from Japan with material aid. They also participated in Japanese cooking classes that were held as part of an integration picnic organized on the premises of former student dormitories in Ligota, which the University of Economics in Katowice made available to the City of Katowice for the purpose of accommodating about 400 people from Ukraine.

Their activity attracted the interest of one of the largest Japanese TV stations NHK World, which will broadcast a reportage about Yugo and Marta’s involvement and support for Ukrainian families staying in Poland.
