BAUHAUS4EU study visit

Between October 23-27, we hosted a study visit of the BAUHAUS4EU European University Alliance. Our guests, invited by the Vice-Rector for Education and International Relations, had the opportunity to get to know better our University and the city of Katowice.

The official welcome of our guests from Germany, Sweden and Portugal was held in the Senate Room of our University on September 24. The participants were welcomed by Her Magnificence Rector Prof. dr hab. inż. Celina M. Olszak and Prof. Peter Benz, Rector of the Bauhaus-Universität based in Weimar, Germany.

Our guests had the opportunity to listen to interesting presentations on:

  • the city, region, university, as well as the concept of the European City of Science Katowice 2024, presented by Edyta Lachowicz-Santos, director of Internationalization,
  • faculties of our University, presented by the heads of the faculties or their representatives:
    • prof. Wojciech Dyduch – Dean of the Faculty of Management,
    • prof. Iwona Pawlas, representing Dean of the Faculty of Economics – prof. Izabela Ostoj,
    • prof. Andrzej Piosik – Dean of the Faculty of Finance,
    • prof. Jerzy Gołuchowski – Dean of the Faculty of Informatics and Communication,
    • dr Adam Polko, representing Dean of the Faculty of Spatial Economy and Regions in Transition – prof. Adam Drobniak.

The whole day ended with a tour of our campus and a visit to the Silesian Museum and a city walk.

The following day, our guests were welcomed by Vice-Rector for Education and International RelationsProf. dr hab. Sławomir Smyczek, and invited to a seminar on research and scientific projects, which was prepared by:

  • dr Marcin Baron,
  • mgr Grzegorz Zych,
  • dr Przemysław Juszczuk,
  • prof. Monika Wieczorek-Kosmala,
  • prof. Jacek Szołtysek,
  • dr Hanna Kelm,
  • dr Artur Ochojski,
  • prof. Przemysław Zbierowski,
  • dr Adam Polko.

The Doctoral School, its teaching offer, scientific and research activities were presented by Prof. Artur Walasik, Dean of the Doctoral School.

In the latter part of the day, our guests from Germany visited the Academy of Fine Arts and Design, while those from Sweden and Portugal met with our faculty members:

  • prof. Małgorzata Dziembała,
  • prof. Iwona Pawlas,
  • prof. Joanna Błach,
  • prof. Monika Klimontowicz,
  • prof. Artur Walasik,
  • dr Paweł Piotrowski.

Finally, our guests visited the Nikiszowiec district of Katowice.

On the third day, Prof. Sławomir Smyczek encouraged our guests from Weimar to participate in a seminar and workshop on education, study curricula and teaching projects. The possibility of starting scientific and teaching cooperation was then discussed between our universities.

During the seminar, Prof. Justyna Ganassali, Dean of the School of Undergraduate and Graduate Studies, presented our study offer and pointed out the possibility of further teaching cooperation with the BAUHAUS4EU European University Alliance.

  • mgr Edyta Gałecka,
  • dr Marta Grybś-Kabocik,
  • dr Agnieszka Tetla,
  • prof. Sławomir Smyczek.

The seminar concluded with a special educational workshop led by Edyta Lachowicz-Santos.

A trip to the Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice marked the end of the study visit to our University.
