On April 22, we celebrated World Earth Day. On this occasion, the academic community of the University of Economics in Katowice participated in the Clean Up the World action, aimed at responsibly taking care of our surroundings around the campus. The event was attended by university staff and students, as well as representatives of the University Authorities: His Magnificence Rector, Prof. Celina M. Olszak, Ph.D., D.Sc., Vice-Rector for Science and Academic Staff Development, Prof. Maciej Nowak, Ph.D., and Vice-Rector for Education and International Relations, Prof. Sławomir Smyczek, Ph.D.
A beautiful and clean environment, the air we breathe, and the space surrounding us are invaluable for our health and well-being. Environmental pollution and climate change, which we witness, make us feel even greater responsibility as citizens of the planet for the place where we live.
Wanting to take care of the space around us, the academic community of the University set out for a joint cleaning of the campus and the surrounding areas along the nearby Rawa River. In addition to traditional waste, unusual larger-sized debris was also collected, such as tires, a toilet, an old scooter, and a kitchen hood. During the cleaning, 2 large trash containers were ultimately filled.
All participants of the action were provided with all necessary accessories and a healthy and eco-friendly snack in the form of apples.
Before starting the cleaning, both students and staff had the opportunity to attend a lecture entitled "Climate Facts and Myths" conducted by Marta Zwolińska-Budniok from Planet Reuse and Pocotoeko.
