On May 25, 2023 the University of Economics in Katowice entered into a cooperation agreement with Skyline University College based in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). This is a historical moment which marks the first-ever collaboration between a Polish and Emirati university, propelling both institutions into a new era of academic cooperation.
The signing ceremony took place at the Pszczyna Castle, Poland, where the agreement was signed by Deepak Kalra Ph.D., the Deputy Vice Chancellor of Skyline University College, representing the owner of our Emirati partner Kamal Puri and Her Magnificence Prof. Celina M. Olszak, Ph.D., D.Sc., Rector of our University.
Months of diligent negotiations paved the way for this groundbreaking collaboration, led by Prof. Sławomir Smyczek, Ph.D., Vice-Rector for Education and International Cooperation, on the Polish side. The first talks on cooperation with the owner of the university in the United Arab Emirates, Kamal Puri, were undertaken by Marcin Kraśniewski, Ph.D. (promoter of the concluded agreement) in November 2022 in Dubai. Throughout the process, the Embassy of Poland in the UAE and the expertise of Maciej Białko, foreign advisor to the Upper Silesian Fund and manager of the Representation in the United Arab Emirates, played instrumental roles in facilitating the discussions.
The cooperation agreement encompasses three vital areas, namely:
- Exchange of Academic Staff,
- Student Exchange,
- Joint Scientific Research.
The University of Economics in Katowice regards this agreement as a significant stride towards enhancing its international reputation and furthering its mission and strategic objectives. The collaboration with Skyline University College will not only strengthen ties between the two institutions but also open avenues for educational and research advancements on a global scale.
The partnership holds immense potential for:
- Establishing academic and scientific cooperation, fostering exchange of ideas and experiences among faculty members.
- Enriching the educational experience for both domestic and international students, including those from the UAE, by broadening their horizons and offering diverse learning opportunities.
- Engaging in scientific research across disciplines that are central to the University of Economics in Katowice's academic pursuits.
The conclusion of the agreement between the University of Economics in Katowice and Skyline University College is also aimed at internationalizing education projects, especially in the area of management, i.e. Master of Business Administration in Corporate Governance and Master of Corporate Governance programs.
