Kato Science Corner

Kato Science Corner is a unique place dedicated to Katowice – City of Science as an information point and space for joint meetings, implementation of events, ventures and research carried out as part of the European City of Science Katowice 2024. Kato Science Corner will also be home to Metrolab, a site providing creative approaches to the city. At Metrolab, everyone will have an opportunity to share their very own ideas for the city, jointly designing proposed changes or new services, implementing and testing them. The space itself will be a gathering point for inspiring meetings, discussions and creative brainstorming in a cozy and relaxed setting. But not only that – Metrolab is also about the way of work and the style of cooperation, which is based on openness, mutual respect, commitment and shared responsibility.

Attractively and functionally designed, the point located in Katowice at the corner of Młyńska and Pocztowa Streets will be open to residents from Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Opening of Kato Science Corner

The grand opening of Kato Science Corner began with a bang – with a live science show just outside the entrance. This was followed by an official ribbon cutting in the colors of Upper Silesia (yellow and blue), and a press briefing. The official part of the event was attended by representatives of the authorities of the city and Katowice universities.

During her speech, our Rector emphasized that through joint activities undertaken in cooperation with the Katowice City Hall, Metropolis GZM and the Marshal's Office, we can together create a new and better future for the city and the region, and, consequently, become a leader in economic development.

Today, there is no other way to build an innovative, entrepreneurial economy, increase security, improve health care, the quality of people's lives and build an inclusive and civil society than to invest in science. Proclaiming the idea of the European City of Science is an investment for all our residents. It is an investment that pays off and will soon determine not only the path of development of our city, but also the entire region. Therefore, with great commitment, right at the beginning of the new academic year, we not only want to shape our students, future experts, leaders of the economy and society, but also want to effectively – very effectively – implement the results of our research into practice, the Rector said.

The event included numerous activities, such as:

  • Mr. Korek's Laboratory show,
  • "Physicist in the kitchen - nitrogen ice cream" and "Musical instruments from waste" workshops,
  • Jędrzej Siwek and Oskar Karski concert,
