On 24 June 2026, as part of the 2nd BAUHAUS4EU Forum in Katowice, meetings of high-level bodies were held: the Presidents’ Council, a joint meeting of the Advisory Council and the Presidents’ Council, as well as a meeting of the Councils with representatives of the City of Katowice. The University of Economics in Katowice was represented by HM the Rector of the University of Economics in Katowice prof. dr hab. inż. Celina M. Olszak and Vice-Rector for Teaching and International Relations prof. dr hab. Wojciech Dyduch.
The meetings were key points in the BAUHAUS4EU Forum programme and provided a space for discussion on the future of the Alliance, its strategic development directions, and further strengthening cooperation between partner universities. The events also had an important networking dimension, enabling the direct exchange of experiences, discussions on joint initiatives, and the building of relationships between representatives of the universities forming the Alliance.
The proceedings were divided into three parts. In the first part, members of the Advisory Council and the Presidents’ Council held separate discussions, focusing on issues relevant to their respective bodies. This was followed by a joint session of both Councils, devoted to the most important challenges and development prospects of BAUHAUS4EU. The final part was a meeting of representatives of the Advisory Council and the Presidents’ Council with representatives of the City of Katowice.
During the meeting, presentations were delivered by HM the Rector of the University of Economics in Katowice prof. dr hab. inż. Celina M. Olszak and Tonia Schmitz, Secretary General. The speeches served as a starting point for further discussion on the directions of the Alliance’s development, its place in the European academic space, and the importance of inter-university and regional cooperation.
The joint meeting with representatives of the city was of particular importance in the context of the role of Katowice and the Silesian region in the activities of the Alliance. It was an opportunity to emphasise that cooperation between universities and the regional environment, local government, and local stakeholders is one of the important conditions for the effective implementation of the BAUHAUS4EU idea. The discussions concerned, among other things, the importance of the region in transformation processes, the potential of academic and local-government cooperation, and the role of cities and universities in building a sustainable, inclusive, and innovative future.
Key information concerning the City of Katowice was presented to our guests by:
- Aleksandra Tomkiewicz - City Architect
- Krzysztof Smętkiewicz - Head of Section, Promotion Department
- Magdalena Kolka - Deputy Head of the Investor Services Department
- Aleksandra Małecka - Education Department
The event showed that BAUHAUS4EU is not only a platform for academic cooperation, but also a space for dialogue between universities, cities, and regions. The meeting in Katowice confirmed the importance of the University of Economics in Katowice as an active partner of the Alliance and host of discussions on the future of European cooperation, transformation, and responsible development.
