In the summer semester, another group of 48 international students from 19 countries such as Italy, Ukraine, Egypt or South Korea will start their education at our University. Their stay in Poland is possible thanks to the Erasmus + program and other bilateral programs. Our new students will join more than 200 short- and long-term students from 45 countries who arrived at UE Katowice in the winter semester.
Monday, February 14, marked the beginning of the Integration Week. This time the event was held online due to the epidemiological situation in the country.
Integration Week is a recurring event organized by the Internationalization Office, with the support of the International Relations Office. It is an initiative aimed at helping international students integrate into the academic community and adapt in a new environment.
The first day of the Integration Week had an informative nature - students were welcomed by the Vice-Rector for Education and International Relations Prof. Sławomir Smyczek. They then had the opportunity to learn how the University functions and where they can seek assistance during their stay in Katowice. Students also participated in a virtual walk around the campus, during which our Uni Buddies - volunteers helping international students - showed the newcomers the most important places at the University.
Tuesday (February 15) was devoted entirely to integration. The Welcome Point team shared some practical advice on life in Katowice and invited students to play integration games such as bingo or Kahoot. Participants could also join a Q&A session with students who visited our Alma Mater in the previous semester. The culmination point of the day was a "Film Party", a joint movie screening, which provided another opportunity for integration.
The Integration Week ended on Wednesday (February 16th) with Polish language workshops. This event was not only a chance to get to know Poland and Silesia, but also a great way to make new friends before the classes begin.
