Integration Week for international students

Between September 25-29 this year, Integration Week for our international students entering their undergraduate and graduate programs at the University of Economics in Katowice was held, also joined by international exchange students from programs such as Erasmus+. This semester, we welcomed a total of 200 international students from more than 33 countries.

Integration Week aims to help international students integrate and feel more at ease both among themselves as well as with their Polish colleagues, especially those who have been personally involved in helping, taking on the role of Uni Buddies. During this event, our international students have the opportunity to learn about the region, Katowice, and our University. Integration Week is organized by the Welcome Point team (Internationalization Office) and International Relations with the support of Polish and foreign Uni Buddies.

On the first day of our new students' stay at our University, they were remotely welcomed by: Vice-Rector for Education and International Relations Professor Sławomir Smyczek, Ph.D., as well as Director of Internationalization Ms. Edyta Lachowicz–Santos, and representatives of Student Services and International Relations Office.

The program includes a number of meetings and activities, including Polish language workshops, a game on campus, a visit to the Silesian Planetarium, team-building games, and much, much more!

On the evening of September 29, there took place the Global Village where students had a chance to share some interesting facts about their home countries and present elements of their culture, such as food, beverages, and national costumes. Food is something that really brings people together, which is why participants had a unique opportunity to experience new flavors from e.g. Spain, Egypt, Ukraine, Greece, Italy, Romania, Georgia, Brazil, Portugal, Turkey, Algeria, Kazakhstan, Germany, and Slovakia. Moreover, they could feast their eyes on colorful traditional costumes worn by our students from India and Egypt. The Uni Buddies ensured that all of the students from abroad could experience the famous Polish hospitality by providing a variety of homemade Polish dishes and beverages.

Global Village was organized on the area and in cooperation with Katowice dormitory Base Camp.

We would like to warmly welcome all new students and wish you all the best while experiencing your studies at the University of Economics in Katowice.
